shitty mentality. everyone who does well doesn't need to be cheating.

his first 2 yrs he had 38 hrs in about 700 ab's which is pretty damn impressive for a 22/23 year old. his next 2 seasons he got under 200 ab's each season which you can pretty much throw out as any hitter will tell you its nearly impossible to produce without consistent AB's. last year he got 515 ab's and hit 33 hr's. this year he's exploded.

his progression doesn't seem as shady/obvious steroids as so many are making it out to be... its far from the Brady Anderson type season.

am I saying he DEFINITELY didn't do steroids, obviously not. but he deserves some slack, imo.

He has always been a prototypical build for a power hitter but the average numbers are just a big surprise to me.

I know he played in Texas but sparingly so finally getting his ABs in another hitter friendly park is helping too.

Just shocked at the big numbers for nearly half a season. Very impressive.

I don't think he's juicing. Texas had a slew of guys at 1B and Corner OF (Moreland, Olt, etc)... they left Davis as the odd man out. Big dude just happened to step it up. Win some, lose some.

oh by no means am I saying this is to be expected. i'm surprised as much as anyone. I was just saying that jumping to the 'he's juicing' just cause of his power #'s is unfair, imo, and based on his #'s not really justified. you're right about the avg tho, just completely on a different level than he ever has been. he's also 2 walks away from a career high which illustrates that he's progressing as a hitter and perhaps changed his approach. that could be an explanation for a slightly improved avg... this type of triple crown stuff is just a huge explosion. will be fun to see if he can keep it up.

Homer Bailey now has 2 no hitters in his last 19 starts.

Interesting.

Anyone catch the post game interview??

The chick was asking him about the guy he walked and if he was upset, he said "No, I just fucking walked him"

The announcers apologized after

I remember Bailey's first game.... like 40k in the house vs the Indians. He was all over the place in the 1st inning or so, then finally settled down and pitched pretty well. That is one of the loudest Reds games that I remember. Seems like it was so long ago too. (06 or 07?) He has taken a lot of heat in Cincy since then. Lunatic radio callers saying he should be trading for the last 4-5 seasons. People are just so dumb when it comes to logic. The last 2 seasons he has finally come around. It's like fans didn't even consider that he made his ML debut at 20/21. He's still very young with a lot of good years ahead of him.

He's average at best.

Never lived up to the hype and he's already almost 28, right?

He hasn't ever "come around".

He's a serviceable 3/4 type guy but not the ace many projected him to be.

He just happens to throw a no hitter every now and again.

I guess we have different definitions of really good and coming around.

But we already knew that

this yr amongst all ML starters:
6th xFIP, 11th in WAR, 15th in k/9

over the past 2 seasons:
25th in xFIP, 21st in WAR, 37th in K/9

those are 'serviceable 3/4' #'s?

to put it in perspective, so far this year his xFIP is 2.98 (behind just F. Hernandez, Harvey, Darvish, Wainwright and Scherzer)

to dumb down xFIP ratings, fangraphs gives classification based on historical precedent to go with the #'s

xFIP

Excellent 2.90
Great 3.25
Above Average 3.75
Average 4.00
Below Average 4.20
Poor 4.50
Awful 5.00

Yup

You say that second line like he is an ace or something.

25th, 21st,and 37th sound like great 3/4 type pitcher numbers to me.

You think he's a 1/2??

Granted this year he has been very good, I agree. Overall body of work and disappointment after the expectations, average.

I remember watching him play against the clippers in Cbus when he was still in Louisville. Pitched 7 scoreless and we t 3-3 with a double lol
