Next sim is tomorrow, Thu, 7/4.

Quick Schedule:
- Thursday: Arbitration and Award Voting Deadline
- Friday: Rule 5 Draft (a mid-day sim, lists due by 11am)
- Saturday: Free Agency Starts
Next time you decide to do an unscheduled 14 day sim leading us to an important event, can you please announce it first. I just lost a future HOF to FA. Thanks.

By the way, your post can be made to read that the Thursday sim bring us to the deadline, specially when we have 14 days calendar game days.

You weren't able to resign him during the regular season, or the last three days when he clearly stated we were leading up to free agency?
I dont want to question your intelligence, but I dont know how you can look at my post and ask yourself "I wonder if he was able to sign him during the regular season, or the last three days?"

I'm not asking if you DID resign him. I'm asking was there a reason you didn't, and waited until the last second to do so.

If I had a player that good that I wanted to keep, I'd have extended his contract during the season, or (if he had an option I had to wait to deal with) the moment the offseason hits. I wouldn't have waited to try to sign him until the final sim before free agency. That's my point. I'm simply asking why you would wait and not lock him up.

I personally think sign and trades are okay.

I would, except one of the reasons we have done some changes (like compensation) is to promote more equality and chances to compete. If we do sign/trades, we allow the rich to move big pieces, reload on talent for a player they weren't going to likely keep, and it keeps any other teams from competing with cash rather than having to give up their young talent.

The counter argument is that it takes 2 to make that trade (just like with draft pick trading). To be completely honest... I think we could have draft pick trading at this point and it wouldn't matter. The draft pick trading wasn't the issue, the lack of common sense, general knowledge of the game and impatience of some owners was the real problem.

everything is done for a purpose regarding those types of rules (draft pick trading, compensation, sign/trades, etc). they all act as a system of checks and balances.

if we want equality, the best way is to just stick with the real rules.

and again, MLB just changed a lot of stuff that i'm not familiar with yet. so there might very well be changes that have been made that allow some version of this... I don't think there have been... but i'm not 100% sure.

@Randawg - There was more then a few people yesterday to tell you to reinstall the game and then your emails would have been there to void the contracts. I think you should be stuck with those guys as you clearly didnt wanna do anything to fix the issue.

As far as Sign and trades what is the big issue ?? I really dont see anything wrong here

if our goal is to have a fair league where everyone has an equal chance of winning... its best we don't allow it.

if we allow things like that, those who understand how the inner workings of these rules are will be able to manipulate and create an advantage.

and to say our issue with draft pick trading was a lack of common sense is partially true, but when a guy is fed up with losing and is going to quit the league and decides he's going to give it one last go by trading his next 2 or 3 first and second round picks to get better for his last chance, we won't be in a good place for the league.

I don't say these things to be some downer or to be annoying. trust me, I don't feel like posting shit like this and I know the rules well enough to know how to manipulate them to my advantage. its just ALWAYS in our best interest to keep things the traditional way.

there is a saying 'If you can't find the sucker at the table, its probably you'. that's what is happening if you allow little alterations of rules to exist.

i personally think you guys overreact to a fun online sim baseball league, but thats just me

cant trade picks, cant do this, cant do that. so and so is gonna manipulate. these rules placed by MLB are there for a reason (even though theyre constantly changing the pros). I mean, why dont we just rename all the teams to MLB teams? Were MLB jr.

This. Multiple people gave ways to get around the issue and none of them were taken.

I'm with Dave on this. The rule exists to help with competitive balance and have a healthy FA crop.

that's pretty harsh

he didn't want the guys, he made it known he didn't want the guys and he got stuck with them.

I would hope we all would give each other the benefit of the doubt in a situation like that.

If he were an employee of yours and he kept saying "what do I do?" in reference to a task, you told him ways to do the task and nothing was done, and then it fell on you (as his "commish") to either fix it or let him be stuck with it, would you feel the same? If so, then I'll reverse my stance

just a reminder, in case you forget.

you need to have a 40 man spot available for each guy you attempt to draft in the rule 5 draft.

I know I forgot and was making my list before I realized I didn't have room.

Little known fact regarding Paco Barron. He saved this league.

Some of you may remember Trendon going AWAL for 6 months after his Caribbean experiment was a bust. At the time, Trendon was going through a bunch of stuff, I think he may have been homeless at one point. As a result of his lack of consistency (this wasnt the first time he had disappeared) no one trusted him enough to invest their time in playing OOTP. He was unable to convince guys to restart things, and the league went dormant.

At around the same time I was getting bored playing an offline game and I kept wondering how Paco Barron would have turned out if given the chance. He was one of my favorite players and was selected in my expansion draft as a 18 year old. I asked Trendon if he would restart the league and he told me that no one was interested anymore.

A few weeks went by and it started to bug me that I wouldnt know how Paco would turn out, so I started recruiting all the old members to try and restart the league. I tried to address the issue with Trendons lack of consistency by recommending a dual Comish structure (I wish shel would have never nominated me  ). I remember having to lobby AJ multiple times to rejoin because I knew we needed at least 10. I knew I had him when he said "if you need the number, I will join, otherwise...." His half-assed commitment was enough to convince others.

10+ OOTP years later we have existed long enough to allow Corey to quit not just one or two times, but a record setting three times. So wherever he ends up as a FA, when Paco Barron visits your club house make sure you leave a small thank you note for saving the league.
