College Hoops Thread - 2014
Re: College Hoops Thread - 2014
Well.....the USF thing started because of Kentucky, so it's only fitting that it ends with us.
The Hurricane is coming to USF to be their new head coach.
Big blow to Kentucky, as he has been far and away the best recruiter on Cal's staff. He will be missed, glad to see him finally get this opportunity though.

Psh, of course he's a great recruiter, who else can walk into a kid's house and tell them that he could teach them how to dribble 8 balls at once, throw halfcourt hook shots and toss confetti buckets with amazing accuracy? No brainer, imo.

Or that he took a bullet to the head due to a stray gunshot, and the bullet stayed lodged behind his eye for years and then one day fell out of his ear?

Sorry, it was "in" his ear (behind the eardrum), didn't fall out, been a while since I read the article. Terrific article a few months back in ESPN the Magazine about his life
http://espn.go.com/college-sports/story ... n-magazine
SIX YEARS AFTER the shooting, in the summer of 1994, before his senior year in college, with the bullet still somewhere in his head, Antigua was playing basketball in Puerto Rico. His left ear began to hurt and bleed and leak pus.
The man who allegedly shot him -- the store manager -- had long ago been acquitted, a 15-year-old with a bullet in his head no contest for big-time lawyers. Antigua lived with fierce migraines but hadn't had a moment of bitterness or self-pity since.
The ear must have become infected from all the swimming in the ocean, he thought. A doctor prescribed antibiotics, but the pain got worse. He couldn't sleep. It became unbearable.
He called the trainer back at Pitt, who told him to get on the next plane back. An ear, nose and throat doctor ordered a CAT scan. As he looked at it, he asked Antigua, "Have you ever had any head trauma?"
"I got shot about six years ago."
"Yeah, that's a bullet in there."
An hour later, the doctor pulled a .22 slug out of Antigua's ear canal.

Went to high school with John Higgins' son. He's a really nice guy. He used to get really into the basketball games at our high school and give the refs a mouthful. One time one of the refs had enough, turned, and yelled, "what the hell do you know about reffing!?" Obviously everyone in our crowd had a good laugh about that one. He was quick to apologize after the game when he found out who he was.jsence2 wrote:No TV Teddy or Tony Greene for the Final Four. Also no Karl "Blind" Hess.

Terry Wymer is a really good dude. He reffed a few of our games at Miami when I worked there. Seemed to be pretty even keel too

Re: College Hoops Thread - 2014
Yeah, only one that concerns me is Shows (he and Cal seem to get into it every time he does a UK game, dunno why) but the pool is pretty solid on the whole. I don't recognize half the names....which is usually a good thing.

Exactly. It's like MLB umpires. If you go "who?" then it's probably before the better because it's not freakin' Cowboy Joejsence2 wrote: I don't recognize half the names....which is usually a good thing.

I like Florida, but I'm on Wisconsin tonight. I'm banking on freshman mistakes by Kentucky. I think Wisconsin is going to pack it in and make Kentucky make 3s. If they make them, they will probably win, I'm hoping them don't.Dolemitesooner wrote:I got Florida -6.5 tonight and Kentucky -1
