Why can you count post-release sales of home media but won't factor in the impending DLC?dakshdar wrote:I don't follow.trendon wrote:Allegedly, the game cost $300 million to make. It's amazing just how much video games crush movies on cost and sales.
Destiny (a "hit" game):
$300 million budget (is this production and marketing?)
$1,000 million in sales
Someone still incurs costs for server maintenance and gameplay patches/bug fixes (assuming the manufacturer).
Avengers (a "hit" movie):
$320 million budget (estimated that $100 million was marketing, movie budget widely reporter/estimated at $220 million)
$1,500 million in ticket sales
$215 million in blu-ray/dvd sales as of summer 2013
Assuming the manufacturing costs for the games and the blu-rays wash out, how is Destiny crushing a hit movie like Avengers? (I'm assuming by "crush" you mean it has a better cost to sales ratio, which it clearly doesn't.)
Either way, I had no idea Avengers cost that much.
