Grad School
Grad School
In an ironic twist, I received a letter yesterday being admitted into the University of Southern Mississippi graduate program for the Masters of Science in Athletic Coaching Education. I debated between USM, West Virginia and a few others, but decided to go with USM. The program is entirely online, so I don't have to go to Hattiesburg, but I thought it was ironic since I am the Golden Eagles. Gotta love technology were you can live in Utah and get a graduate degree from Mississippi! I'm excited I got admitted, but kinda nervous about the future. This may mean that I stay with the Golden Eagles, since I'm soon to be an alum!

Re: Grad School

Re: Grad School
I took an online course, but that was for an atomic physics class which Im sure has a more straght forward lesson plan, opposed to courses in the arts and whatnot.
They would post all the material we needed, gave us an exam date, and we were on our own to learn the material in prep for the exam. They also had weekly online homework designed to help in understanding the material

Re: Grad School
I was admitted into an online grad school program at USC in February.
Mine seems to be way different prob than Joe's though Dave as I get my teaching credential as well. The one at USC works is logging in a lot of study time online via message boards and online study groups. There are projects and certain times that you have to meet with professors and present things in class.
The other part for me is I have to student teach in a lower class high school because part of the program is teaching inner city teenagers and making education better for a lower class society.

Re: Grad School
I finished up my bachelor degree online as well at Western Governors University (www.wgu.edu), a school that is entirely online. Online classes are different at different schools. I took some at Utah State where you had to have things done by certain times and that you had homework due on certain dates. Then I took other classes at Utah State and WGU where you could go at your own pace and you had a certain amount of time to complete them with assignments and some without. Some of the classes you study for the final and take the final to pass the class and there is not homework. There are a lot of different varieties of online classes, but I like them.

Re: Grad School
I’ve been thinking about online as well. When I graduated college, I promised myself that I would never sit in a damn classroom again. I freaking hate that shit. However, online allows me the opportunity to learn without breaking my promise to myself.

Re: Grad School
am i the only one that thinks online grad school isn't the same thing?
I know it gets you everything in a degree that you'd get in a class that you go to everyday at 9 am, but it's just odd to me because it seems to me that you can never be as well-prepared from an online class as you would from one that required attendance

Re: Grad School
I thought this too until I did research into different programs and a lot of them are just as good if not better as the teaching you get in a class room. A lot of the technology these online Masters programs use is a lot better than that is used in the class room.VeniVediV1ci wrote:am i the only one that thinks online grad school isn't the same thing?

Tig,
I'm hoping less then two years. I have 11 classes that I need to complete, so I'm hoping less then 2 years, but we'll see.

Re: Grad School
I agree, I took the first part of that online physics class and did really well, then the next semester for the second part instead of going to class I pretty much continued what I did before, teaching myself. I learned how to best prepare for the class and actually learned why/how things were the way they werepacksyD22 wrote:
