Re: NFL Thread
I'm glad you two knew some info on these guys, I know absolutely nothing about either one of them. I was initially surprised to see a C picked, but you bring up a good point about Mack. Anything to help the DL is good in my book. I'm happy so far.The_Niddler wrote:ReignOnU wrote:Browns draft was predictable... but I'm happy with that. I only liked 2 WR in the 1st round... Parker and White. Both were gone at the 2nd pick. They could have possibly taken Parker with 12 and Shelton with 19, but it looks like Shelton was head and shoulders above the other DT options, so I can live with taking him first and missing out. The pick of Cameron Erving was surprising, but the fact that they went OL wasn't. Thomas is inked, Bitonio is a monster, and Schwartz and Mack would be gone after this season. Bringing in Erving to play G/T (could move Schwartz) for a season and having him as a backup plan for Mack is a pretty smart move. The picks weren't flashy, but could be effective.
There are some serious contributors on the board still. I would have been pissed if the Browns risked a mid-late first on DGB, but if he's there with their early 2nd round pick, I'm all for them going after him. If not him, I also like Jaelen Strong, Devin Smith and Devin Funchess as 2nd rnd options. If they decide to go defense, I see 3 good CB and S left.
Overall, I'm happy. Hopefully Justin Gilbert can get his head out of his ass and start living up to his potential. As for Johnny... well, there's "that" too.
Could not agree more.
I liked their picks so far and I felt the same way about the WR's for our 2 picks.
In the second round, I would like Devin Smith if we take a WR. While DBG has a lot of upside, if he gets his issued cleared up, not sure the Browns need someone with more off-field issues.
If not, I wouldn't mind a CB.
But don't be surprised if we take a QB too. 1 of my buddies stated it could be Garrett Grayson QB Colorado State

Re: NFL Thread
I was busy last night so I'm just now catching up to the draft. I would have preferred for the Colts to address the defense in some way, either with a DT or safety. But it looks like they're going back to the draft philosophy they had with Peyton Manning which was to give him targets and help on offense and then address the defense in the later rounds and free agency.
Supposedly the he Eagles offered two first-round picks, a third-round pick, starters at DT, LB, and CB, and more to the Titans to try and get Mariota. That's pretty incredible.

Cut us some slack. It's the only time we ever have any hope. Usually by the end of the draft, all hope is lost.DRiccio21 wrote:Browns fans in May are always a blast!

Love the DuPree pick but I just hope he develops better then Jarvis Jones.

Dallas got your Boy from UConn, Byron Jones. I give them a B+ for that pick since he will more than likely be a nickel back and wont be an every down DB. Kid is an athletic freak that's still learning the position.

I was actually happy with a Washington draft pick for once. That's a new concept. Getting a big bookend tackle to help Williams is great. Very happy with that. We'll have to see how they screw it up from here

The problem is that Scherff is better suited to be a guard.Seeitsaveit13 wrote:I was actually happy with a Washington draft pick for once. That's a new concept. Getting a big bookend tackle to help Williams is great. Very happy with that. We'll have to see how they screw it up from here

Very true. Listening to the sports station here. They are talking like Moats is going to be a solid stop gap at OLB till he is ready. I dont see that. They also mentioned moving Shazier outside if Jones doesnt get it together and have Spence and Timmons in the middle with a mixture of DuPree and Moats on the other side. Not a fan of that.DRiccio21 wrote:no shit. we need Jones in the worst way with Worilds retiringdoc wrote:Love the DuPree pick but I just hope he develops better then Jarvis Jones.

Re: NFL Thread
Bobby G, Cousins, Colt, or whomever we throw back there has no chance with our currently line. Scherff can be T, G, or whatever he wants, but we had to address O-line so I'm happy we did. Still need to take another T and G in the later rounds for depth. Would like to see a CB and a LB/DE orakpo replacement
Very curious to see where Quinten Rollins goes. He was a 4 year starter for the basketball team at Miami and then played a year of football after he finished. He was 1st team all-mac and led the country in INTs. He had a good senior bowl, and people saying he could very well go in the 2nd round. Hope he goes somewhere that he gets a good chance to play. I remember when I worked study tables he would always show up even when the basketball team didn't have to. He was a good dude. I hope he does well

yeah, i thought all the first round stuff with him was a bit excessive.texasfan4444 wrote:Dallas got your Boy from UConn, Byron Jones. he's a freak athlete for sure, he broke the world record in the broad jump at the combine. i don't really know how stuff like that translates as i'm not a football guy like i am hoops. but it seemed like a stretch to bump a guy from mid rounds to 1st round cause he's a good athlete.

the defense is going to look so different this year, its going to be a lot of patchwork til they figure things outdoc wrote:Very true. Listening to the sports station here. Pats-Steelers opening night could be a 50-48 game.

Re: NFL Thread
Some of the previews I've seen say that he's actually better suited to be a safety. I don't follow Dallas and have no clue what their safety situation is but maybe that plays a part in them reaching. Of course Jerry Jones has more than a little Al Davis in him and loves those combine warriors.DRiccio21 wrote:yeah, i thought all the first round stuff with him was a bit excessive.texasfan4444 wrote:Dallas got your Boy from UConn, Byron Jones. was Washington's defense good last year?
i feel like they had like 5 guys drafted on the defensive side in the first 2 rounds

I take back everything I said about the Browns.
They drafted Duke.
