Re: Golfers
have you used it with the watch yet?
it won't be here til the 16th, i guess its been out of stock and thats the earliest i can expect to see it is next wednesday.
i missed that when i ordered as i ordered it the same time as the moto360 and assumed that delivery date would be the same.
pretty bummed as i wanted to play a bunch this weekend with it

Re: Golfers
Played one round with the watch. Worked well enough, but it didn't add a ton of value for me although if your goal is to never take your phone out it definitely helps. I guess it was nice to have confirmation when recording clubs, but I didn't use the "distance to pin"nearly as much as I thought I would, although the courses I play have the 100, 150, and 200 yard stakes that I typically use. On one hole the GPS said I was 125 yards to the middle of the green, but I was only a couple yards behind the red marker. I said fuck it, trust the GPS. So I hit my wedge which is right at that distance, lands on the fringe past the green. Tracked the shot, 123 yards. So I found myself using the markers more and the GPS as a guide
Being able to see the distance of my last shot immediately was nice too. That was the first time I ever played with a watch, would have to get used to having something on my wrist. Overall I could do without the watch, but I love the tags.

Re: Golfers
Yes and no. Yes, you can use the watch for distance without tabs. No, as in you need the full app subscription to sync with watches, which you'll get with the tabs
Re: Golfers
You could, absolutely
Re: Golfers
just shot a 93. not gonna lie, it felt awesome
i didn't have to chip at all the entire round. every approach shot i hit went on the green. never realized how important that is rather than just barely missed and having to chip and then probably still two putt.
i used the watch for distances and it was like getting a secret code in a video game. roughing it vs knowing exactly what you need to hit is a big deal i guess.
i wont have those tabs in until next week but i might need to get a new phone or a new battery. my S4 dies way to quick, i might upgrade to the s6. corey, is that a good phone to get?

Re: Golfers
Not for what you want to use it for most likely.
Great device in terms of speed, specs, and functionality and one of the best phones out there. BUT it gets very mediocre battery life and may not even last you a whole round.
Not sure how big you want to go but the Note 5 is coming out soon but you can get the note 4 for very cheap now and one of the best phones of last year. Terrific battery life but it is a little bigger.
If the note is too big, next recos:
HTC one m9 or m8
One Plus One(best battery I've ever used next to the 6+)

Re: Golfers
shot a 91 today.
46 and 45. if i could ever hit a driver i could be respectable. i hit sw thru 6 iron really well and i am hit or miss putting but i can hold my own. i just suck off the tee.
having these distances on my phone/watch is a huge help. almost like playing with a caddy

Not sure if it interests you or not, but I have a S5 that I never bothered to sell after I went back to an iPhone. I used it for about 5-6 months and was even paired up with a Gear2 Watch. I was about to put it on eBay for 275 but I can sell it to you for 225 and ill pay the shipping. It is an ATT phone so that may not even be an option for you but just thought id throw it out there. Its practically new and I have the case, original cables, and everything that came with it originally. It was always kept in a case with a scratch cover so it looks practically new.
anyways...if you need something to get you by until you make your mind up on a phone or to get something without a contract.... let me know.
Re: Golfers
If you can hit your irons well then you should be able to hit your driver. It is just in your head. It is the same mechanics and the same swing just a different club in your hands, and ball placement in your stance.
I know. I know. Easier said than done but it can be fixed at the range.

Is it a consistent miss with the driver? If so, what is it?DRiccio21 wrote:shot a 91 today.

Re: Golfers
Not exactly. Most golfers tend to have a flatter backswing with the driver and longer irons than they do with short irons and wedges.OracleHCR wrote:If you can hit your irons well then you should be able to hit your driver. Re: Golfers
Yeah, I definitely "sweep"my driver opposed to driving down with my irons
Re: Golfers
It is the same mechanics. At least it is supposed to be. You just have the ball farther forward in your stance for long irons and fairway woods and you adjust for length of the shaft. But your backswing, stance and tempo should all be the same.

Re: Golfers
Use an iron off the tee or get a hybrid to tee off with.
I would rather be 50 yards shorter but in the fairway.

I assume you're playing the white tees...if so, driver really isn't necessaryOracleHCR wrote:If you can hit your irons well then you should be able to hit your driver. It is just in your head. i just don't have the tempo yet. with my irons i have a nice slow backswing... quick set... explode and i crush it with the low to high trajectory and its straight.
with driver i don't have the same smooth swing and i try to crush it more i think and i get a slice. then on the range when i practice i smooth it out and swing 'easy' and i smoke them straight like all my other clubs. then when i'm on the course for some reason when i try to 'swing easy' i hook little dribblers. my confidence is sky high right now and i've hit em on the range so i'm sure i'll get it eventually but its not right yet. i get the ball out there with the driver its just not nearly as pure as with my irons.
today i played with the #1 golfer at Barry U. A DII school down here thats won a few national titles recently. the kid was unreal, he shot a 33 on the front 9 then it started to pour and he didnt want to wait so he just left. but he would drive it 300+ almost every time and he was on both par 5's he played in 2. watching someone that good was eye opening.

Re: Golfers
Driver is, in my mind, completely different than any other club. Swing mechanics mostly remain the same, but you want to be swinging up into the ball so you normally need a different set with your shoulders to start, differently alignment of the ball to your feet, and different spacing for your stance.
Most likely, if you're slicing on the course you're reaching out to make sure you get to the ball (maybe standing too far away) and as you do that you are "casting" the club and you cut across the ball from 5 o'clock to 11 o'clock, imparting the left to right spin/slice. When you "go easy" and hit dribbling hooks you're timing with your hands and swing are off and you're closing your club face to early. It's definitely hard to change your swing tempo and keep things in step with each other in your swing. I'd suggest practicing an easier swing tempo on drives at the range.
My driver practice thoughts are usually:
-- on the backswing, take it back low and slow -- pretend there is a guy standing directly in line with your target path behind you watching your shot and reach back like you want to knock the hat off his head
-- from the top of the swing feel like you're trying to pull down on a rope tied tied to a huge church bell -- you don't want to be breaking your wrists early in the downswing as you can't pull hard when you do that -- you need to pull with your core first, then shoulders
-- focus on a spot on the ball that is on the lower left corner if you were looking at it from the side your driver will make contact -- this, for me, makes me keep the club inside on the way down and gives me my 7 o'clock to 1 o'clock swing motion I want for a mostly straight/slight draw drive.
The pre-swing club waggle with the driver is also important to me as I feel that that is the last part of the swing on the way down (clubhead catching up to the swing and closing at the point of impact).
Anyway, that's what works for me. Not saying I'm a great driver, but I do ok.

Re: Golfers
Also, love watching slow motion swings on youtube to understand the mechanics better and see things that I feel like I can work on/replicate at the range.
Webb Simpson has one of my favorite, simple driver swings. Low/slow takeaway, can really see the "pull down on the rope" visual on his downswing, but doesn't swing out of his shoes or jump into the ball.
