Re: Random Discussions
So Da'esh has UAV's now and are actually using them. Here is a video of the UAV spotting for the rocket launch on Fire Base Bell. This is where the Marine died last week, about 3 miles away from us.
edit: This footage was taken earlier this month. This wasn't the actual attack that killed the Marine, just the same fire base.

I love the model s, but the model X has me worried about the 3. It's not a good looking car by any stretch of the imagination (IMO). I'm concerned they are going to put something out there that looks like a Prius.Weasel wrote:I'm living vicariously through you as I read about the 3. Re: Random Discussions
They finally showed it last night but it was under a wrap. It looks almost exactly like the Model S but a smaller version as some of the hardcore fans photoshopped and did all this crazy measuring to show the body style.
I don't mind the look of the X but still prefer the S over it and no way Elon makes something that isn't beautifully designed. In Elon we trust.
They basically confirmed last night it will have auto pilot, ability for 300 mile range, and a 0-60 speed under 4 seconds. The latter doesn't matter much to me but the first 2 are excellent to hear
That will be a maxed out version though most likely and you can add auto pilot after the fact.
You basically reserve today and don't configure until closer to production. The extra 2,3 years is perfect as it will help me pay off my wife's car in preparation.
The wait is going to be brutal.

I'm confused, the $1k deposit is already due before we see what the car looks like? Is that $1k refundable?

From everything I've read, while I'm sure the $35k base model will be more than cool, the base model will likely be missing most of the really cool features if it's anything like the other base models vs the more expensive versions with all the bells and whistles.Weasel wrote:I'm living vicariously through you as I read about the 3. So while it's marketed as the $35 Tesla, it's more realistically the $45-50k Tesla, from my understanding.

Yes and yes.shel311 wrote:I'm confused, the $1k deposit is already due before we see what the car looks like? Is that $1k refundable?
Tesla has never made their timelines in releasing their vehicles. They have done this with the S and X in the past as well. Demand for this car is off the charts though of course and people are lined up at tesla stores across the world for their reservation.
They are starting release in North America working their way from California to the east coast in that order. People of course are trying to get in early to ensure they get the $7500 tax break before the 200k teslas are sold. Right now they have sold around 50k.
The unveiling is tonight.
And yes it's that crazy that people are putting down $1k on a car they haven't seen, and will not get until probably 2018 if that.
Historic release and future for the automobile industry and look what the S and X have already done. Highest ratings of any car in production in terms of safety, quality, and customer satisfaction. Worth taking the plunge imo.

Well if it's refundable, then I guess it's not that big of a deal. Makes sense.

Re: Random Discussions
The only things that would be missing are auto pilot, more expensive interior, bigger wheel combo and ludicrous speed mode. Everything else is standard on all models like it is on the X and S.shel311 wrote:From everything I've read, while I'm sure the $35k base model will be more than cool, the base model will likely be missing most of the really cool features if it's anything like the other base models vs the more expensive versions with all the bells and whistles.Weasel wrote:I'm living vicariously through you as I read about the 3. Auto pilot is the thing I went the most which is $3k so even wth my configuration it should still make it under $40k plus incentives easily. Not to mention no gas, oil changes, and all of that down the road.
