We went back in 2014, the place is amazing and words really can't describe how awesome it is. You'll get your tix in the mail around March, DO NOT look on eBay, you will be tempted to sell the tickets instead of going. It is a must go no matter what. We flew into Charlotte on Sunday morning and drove right to Pinehurst. Played there Sunday afternoon and again Monday morning and then drove that night to Columbia, SC and stayed there which is about 45 mins or so outside of Augusta. We went on a Tuesday (best day to go if you ask me) as well which is the day of the champion's dinner so most of the past champions will be out early. We just started at 1 and walked it as if we were playing. The change in elevation cannot be shown on TV and that is what amazed me the most. Enjoy it!

Played 54 holes this weekend in Palm Springs. Unreal courses out here for so cheap because of how hot it gets after 11 AM.

We had our company golf outing last week. First time I'd played a round in nearly two years, due to a torn meniscus.

And had my best round ever. Go figure. Still gotta work on my driver (left to right on every drive) to get better distance, as I hit longer (and straighter) shots w my hybrids than the driver on a few holes, but the investment into better clubs and putter made a huge difference. We had a par 3 challenge hole, I was only person in the foursome to make the green, and then sank a 35 ft putt for birdie.

BTW, anybody looking for a new putter... Cannot recommend this thing enough, made a massive difference! The weighting is terrific. Is normally a 200 dollar putter

Picked up a new putter 2yrs ago... I think I paid around $80 for it on sale. I'm never going away from this design.

I'm in the market for a new driver and hybrid (17-20). I'm hitting my 5i 220, 4i 240, but I struggle with it. I'd like to find a hybrid that is around 240-255. My current 17 is in the 260-265 range. I have a strange OCD thing where my driver and hybrid have to similar manufacturers (same with wedges). Yeah, I'm weird. Any recommendations on solid adjustable driver that has a good similar hyrbid? The only thing I've seen recently is the TaylorMade SLDR.

The biggest advantage of the distance isn't the drive... it's really knowing that just about any 2nd shot (even from a screwed up 1st shot) has a good chance. That's been my biggest gain over the last year or so. If I'm 200 (6 iron) or less, I feel great.

Right now when I'm playing I'm hitting driver on most par 4s because I want to work on my game. When I go on my trip and we start playing for some money, I'll be hitting a long iron off of most tees and trying to park it at the 150 so I can just hit a 9 iron in.

I've actually taken some distance off my irons this year after overhauling my swing end of last year, and it's actually improving my game. Still have length in my long game, but I've dropped a clubs worth of distance on each iron for the most part.

i don't even get the purpose of wanting that type of length unless you're insanely good.

i purposely swing at about 80% on all my clubs. nice controlled simple swing. i went from shooting 110's a year and a half ago to low 90's now.

if i could putt better i'd be in the 80's, but i have a few 3 putts per round that kill me

I've been in the 90s all year... for the first time ever. If I really kept my driver in the bag, I think I could break into the high 80s right now. It's the most confident that I've ever felt. To me, the biggest advantage of the length isn't bombing drives 280-300, it's hitting a 6 iron at 200 and a 9 iron at 150. I think most golfers can agree that hitting a 6i and under is far easier than a long iron or driver. But I've yet to really try to maximize that on the course.

I've tried the slower controlled speed and I'm so inconsistent at the point of impact. With a normal full swing, my misses are consistent, easy to identify the mistake on and easy to adapt to throughout the round. It's been an interesting progression for me over the last 3-4 years. My 7 iron used to be my 150 club and my 5 was lucky to roll to 200. I think the length has come from a combination of my new clubs (3-4 years old) and that I've stopped tinkering with my swing.

I'm sure I've mentioned it before, but the only thing that I've done for the last year and a half is focus on what Hank Haney teaches (in between his sales pitches). It's simplified how I swing and just focusing on that has made it all 2nd nature. I don't have any delusions about being a scratch golfer. But I went from hitting low 100s with the occasional 110-115, to playing in the 90s. If I can get a semi-consistent drive (currently 4-6 penalty strokes per round), I think I can squeak into the 80s. Then maybe shave a few more strokes but just refining what I'm doing or really focusing on course management. When I'm screwing off on the weekends without money on the line, we're just ripping drives, which obviously doesn't help the scorecard.

I'm playing in a scramble to support the Michael J. Fox foundation on Friday afternoon and then I've got a tee time for early Sunday on one of the harder courses in the area. I'm obviously going to let it rip in the scramble, so maybe I'll try to play some station to station golf on Sunday and really aim to get a great score, to see how it works out. Seems like a good opportunity to give it a run. I think the course has about 3 430+ par 4s, so I'm sure I'll go driver there and on the par 5s... but most other 400 and under par 4s I could probably go back to back 6 irons. Worth a shot just to see how it could come together.

Get a handicap. It will give you something to shoot for. It will make you focus on those "off days" just a little more because you'll keep wanting to see it drop.
