Re: 2060 Season Thread.... We Got Crabs Y'all
Also, MY DISSERTATION IS (mostly) DONE!!! I just have a 1 credit hour class starting in January where I do data interpretation and then my degree is done. Definitely looking to be more active on the boards this season.
Also, +1 to any possible scout adjustment. If it required a reset I'd vote yes to that, but I also like having the league history and wouldn't want to lose that if we can avoid it. My guess is that adjusting scouts isn't possible, though.

Scouting Accuracy
This allows you to select how accurate scouts are in your game world. This can be set from very low to very high. There is also an option called "100% accurate". This option is specifically for use by people who really don't want to deal with scouting, but still want the the game to periodically generate newly-scouted players.
Scouting Report Updates
This allows you to determine how often player scouting reports are updated: monthly, bi-monthly, or only at the start and end of the season.
Report History
This allows you to determine how many scouting reports are retained for each player: all of them, one per season, or none at all.
Re: 2060 Season Thread.... We Got Crabs Y'all
While frustrating in trade talks and drafting, it does create a bit of fun completely missing on some players and we have made it this far without changing anything on this front to my knowledge
Re: 2060 Season Thread.... We Got Crabs Y'all
I honestly love the scout differences. I have other leagues that use OSA only and honestly it is boring. But the draft classes are always jacked way up and 2-3 rounds worth of 4-5 star players.

I like the variances, but sometimes it is a little too different.kdog36 wrote:I honestly love the scout differences. I have other leagues that use OSA only and honestly it is boring. But the draft classes are always jacked way up and 2-3 rounds worth of 4-5 star players.
My feeling is this:
Take a real life guy like Saquon Barkley. I know it is football, but when he went into the draft, everyone in the country knew he was going to be picked high and would most likely work out in the NFL. I am pretty sure every scout had him rated high.
Now I understand some scouts may have seen him as an 80 potential and others may have had him as a 75 potential, etc., but no scout had him as a 20 potential player.
That is what drives me crazy in our OOTP league.
Some scouts will see a guy as a 20/80 potential and then others will see him as a 20/20.
Just not realistic in my opinion.
Some differences, sure. Or a player that some may see as a 20/45 and others see as a 20/60, I get those differences.

My biggest thing with them is when you have OSA rating a guy with 70+ power and other scouts see him with 70+ power. But then you'll have some scouts that see him as 10-20 power. That makes no sense to me, especially for something like power.
Regardless though, I've grown to enjoy scouts. I feel like if you're going to use them, you just have to accept them for what they are.

Some scouts could see light tower power during batting practice and assume that's what they should expect during games, while others could see a flaw in their swing maybe and realize it's all for show? Just playing devils advocate hereNeurotic wrote:My biggest thing with them is when you have OSA rating a guy with 70+ power and other scouts see him with 70+ power. I get this for guys that are rookies, but once the guy hits 40 HRs a season, is it just for show anymore?
There could be stats to back up a scout yet other scouts still see him vastly different in that area.

Minor league success doesn't always guarantee major league success - see Jabari Blash... Again just throwing out both possible sides here
Re: 2060 Season Thread.... We Got Crabs Y'all
I agree and have hated for a long time how one guy will say he has 95 control and one guy says he has 9 control as it is not realistic really but the best hope for that is just developers tweaking things and improving the game. Its is the same as the OF with 98 speed and 20 range that never improves, that just would not happen.
The pros of having scouts far outweigh the cons in my opinion and there is not really a setting that will make it different. Our scouting accuracy is currently set to normal. Even if we went to very high the differences are still there, you just know your scout is basically always right and that is not a fun or realistic situation either

I honestly love the scout difference. It's the most realistic part of this IMO. If I got a vote I'd vote to remove OSA. There isn't some magical baseline you can compare your scout to in real life. You should be hiring a scout that fits your playstyle.
Tools = High risk/High reward - lots of busts but can find that franchise player
Ability = Med risk/Med reward - consistently finds MLB level guys but rarely will find that franchise player
Of course there are exceptions to the above. But if OSA didn't exist you'd rely solely on your scout and if you didn't like the results, you fire and try again. I honestly almost never look at OSA. I hired a scout with what I wanted for a reason. Also this is literally the definition of OSA from OOTP themselves:
"In OOTP, in addition to individual team scouting directors, there also exists an unbiased scouting agency known as the OOTP Scouting Association (OSA). OSA scouts players on a regular basis, and can provide a second data point for you in analyzing scouting reports. Even if you fire your scouting director, OSA can still provide you with some data on players. Unfortunately, OSA is woefully understaffed, and as a result, OSA only updates player scouting reports annually. OSA scouts are also woefully underpaid, and as a result, they are rarely as accurate as your own staff. As with all scouting, the younger the player is, the less likely OSA scouting reports are to be accurate. Most scouting directors who are available for hire will provide better information than the OSA scouts do. The bottom line is that you should use your own scouting department's information as a primary source of data."

Re: 2060 Season Thread.... We Got Crabs Y'all
That's a really good find, thanks for sharing! I actually didn't know that they were designed to be less effective than a scouting staff. I thought they were just supposed to be a sort of aggregate consensus to be taken as a median benchmark, where scouts would project higher or lower based on type. I was dead wrong.TheGobOne wrote:I honestly love the scout difference. It's the most realistic part of this IMO. If I got a vote I'd vote to remove OSA. Also, you all persuaded me. Agree that the degree of variance between scouts is boggling and frustrating, but I'm sold that it's a better system than no scout at all or 100% accurate scouts. I acquiesce.
