Topic: Removing restrictions on 25 and under contracts

Post by nick »

"-Players 25 and under cannot be signed to any deal longer than 6 years max. The exception is if the player is in the FA pool. "

this was needed at the beginning cause ball shredding deals were happening. But I feel like with OOTP 20, and even the one before, it seems like players figured out finances a little more and shred owners a lot (see Kline 10/400ish). Even when you go to the offseason and sign players when the season starts, they still want good salaries on 1 yr deals.

I think we should remove this rule and let people sign players if they want to sign that contract. sometimes they work, sometimes they backfire and hinder your team.

Also, I can probably find several instances where this rule wasnt even enforced and no one batted an eye.

I like the idea of not allowing contracts that buy out the league minimum years (unless they're a FA obviously). I think the game is better at handling these situations but its still not perfect.

I like Mike’s idea. Nick is right that they are better but I think a combination of these points would work perfectly. A rule like:

Can not extend out the 3 league minimum years but when they are in year 3 and heading to Arb their is no restrictions on extensions as far as length

Haha, not that big of mistakes. Biggest one I remember is Hank signing Mens to like 15 a year but he had 2 illegal things with too many options and years and it had to be voided. Then he didn’t extend him again and the next offseason demands went up like crazy and he went for like 50 million

Contract should be voided completely. And that'll hurt your chances with signing him later (think of cutting someone and trying to sign them in FA afterwards). You should know better to sign an illegal contract
