So, What is the Verdict?

Post by trendon »

I can't tell simply by staring at the box.

What is the general consensus on the game?

I like the game. As you can see there is some varying opinions on the whole strategy thing but I like it. I think the game plays a lot better than 09 and it's going to take some time to get used to some of the differences in the running and passing game. In the passing game you get rewarded for having a pocket presence whereas if you just drop as far back as you can it's not going to work anymore especially against quick fast DE's. The running game is going to take some getting used to for me but I always have a hard time with the running game cause I overuse the sprint a lot and just can't get myself to stop.

I'm not going to go as far as saying that it's 'cheese-free,' but there are definitely some factors in it that limit the ability of scrubs to cheese it up in the East Room. So that's a very welcome bonus.

I don't have a firm opinion on the A/C (Aggressive/Conservative) stuff yet, but I've got a feeling that I'm going to really enjoy it. It will be frustrating if we find that it plays a key role in the game and that you can only change it during a time out. I can see situations where you need to make that adjustment but don't want to blow a TO to do it.

The passing is tough to defend if you've got a good QB on the other side. It's the angles that make it tough to react to. (camera view) Running is solid so far. I've found success with everything from dive plays, to off tackle, and of course the good ole option.

Today's goals are to play a few games on Heisman with some NDLers and to really work hard on the play setup feature. I got 3 plays to SETUP! status last night and all 3 we big gainers!

I think you can just press L2 or something in the play call screen at any time and you can change the gameplan.

Overall: I really enjoy the game. I think it will be another good year for the league

Positives:
- No two games are really ever the same really. I'm still not entirely comfortable with the 'Strategy' gameplanning elements of the game, but from the games I have played you really change the look of a game really quickly with good or bad strategizing. It feels almost like Feast or Famine at times. You guess the wrong side on a run and the other team is liable to break it wide open. Adds an interesting wrinkle to the game.

- Pursuit Angles!! I love the pursuit angles in this game. I felt last year the game was not balanced well in terms of defending against speed. It still blows my mind that a 79 overall rated running back can rush for nearly 2000 yards while the highest rated ones barely break 100 yards a game. Yes, style of running plays a big factor in this, but we all know if you got a 94+ speed guy in Open Field, no one was really going to catch them. This year, not so much, the CPU appears to wise up as soon as they know they're beat and they take the angle right away. I love that.

Questions on the Horizon:
- So by playing a few games against others I can tell already we're going to need to revisit our "LEAGUE RULES" pretty soon. Besides the big debate on playing level (Heisman or AA), there are features in this game that as we get more use to them we'll need to address.

My key point of concern will be the "CHEW CLOCK" feature. In my honest opinion I think it's a great feature in the game and in terms of Sportsmanship it can be a good fit for our league. But on the flipside, this feature can also be a big slap in the face. Just playing Devils Advocate here, but if someone goes up 21+ in the 3rd quarter then slaps on the Chew Clock feature, what do you do!?

In all fairness, the game isn't 'technically over'. But by implementing that feature you basically handicap/limit the odds of this game changing directions. As it stands we have rules in place for people not to milk the clock unless under 2 minutes in the half, but this feature makes you want to reconsider.

I'm open for a debate on the matter, but think of all the different scenarios that will possible arise. Blowout in the 2nd quarter, up 35, do you slap on Chew Clock!? Underdog team, up double digits late in the 3rd quarter, slap on Chew Clock!? Upset special when a team just makes a bunch mistakes but doesn't feel out of the game, Chew Clock!? Do we set a firm point in time or point ratio to delegate when you can use this feature!?

VT i saw the chew clock thing, havent read anything else. Its to my understanding that in the NDL people dont run the clock down and generally snap between 13-15 seconds in the 3rd Q, so if theyre chewing clock, they'll get deductions. Only in the final 2 mins is it suffice to do

chew clock only deducts around 5 or 6 seconds..so if you pick a play w/20 seconds left then its down to 15 by the time you get to the line...i dont see anything wrong w/that

AJ will have final call on the rules but i imagine it'll be pretty simple.

chew clock is to only be used in the final 2 minutes of any half

MAYBE we'll have a 28 point chew clock rule where u can use it then...definitely not 21 or 24....and even then it'll prolly be only in the 2nd half or 4th qtr

I know personally, if im getting blown out by 28 (which damn well may happen on many numerous occasions this year)..I have NO PROBLEM with the chew to get that shit over with

(Superceding all this is INTENT of the rules and the overall idea of sportsmanship and how to be a gracious winner....which heaven knows we dont need to have that discussion again)

I'd venture a guess that so far you're in the minority

Way easier to run in this version on Heisman so your thoughts surprise me

i'm sure i am in the minority, but it's not the offense that gets on my nerves.

For the first time, I really think the camera angle is trash. I can't see where the ball's going so it's impossible for me to try to user pick/catch, and that's a big part of how i play the game.

Also, I'm just not a fan of how this game has basically become madden. Madden was good for a while and when it fucking sucked I found refuge in this league with this game, but now they're trying to make it the same damn game and I don't like that.

...hopefully i get used to it, but my first 4 games weren't fun. I mean i'll obviously still play for the competition, but at this point that's it

edit: I've only played 4 games, all on AA, but i was actually thinking last night that there's no way Heisman can be as bad so I think that may be my vote for the first time in a while because pretty much it can't suck as bad as AA

What's funny is if you'd play your only 4 games on heisman, you'd probably be saying the same thing that it couldn't suck as bad on AA, lol.
