Trump accused of hypocrisy for ordering the potentially inflammatory killing of a top Iranian general, after a series of tweets emerged from 2011 of him saying former president Obama would start a war with Iran in order to get re-elected

https://twitter.com/AnneWheaton/status/ ... 8788534273
Our President will start a war with Iran because he has absolutely no ability to negotiate. He's weak and he's ineffective. We have a real problem in the White House. So I believe he will attack Iran sometime prior to the election because he thinks that's the only way he can get elected. Isn't that pathetic?

holy shit we live in a simulation

Iraqi PM condemns US ‘assassination’ of Iran’s Soleimani, al-Muhandis. The strike also violated the conditions of US military presence in Iraq and should be met with legislation that safeguards Iraq’s security and sovereignty, he added. He called on parliament to convene in an extraordinary session.

guess it wasnt lawful..

First, there is no conservative side or liberal side to this. I was actually thinking politics as I was driving today and how much we all are hypocrites as long as it fits our political aspirations of the moment. I'll give you a couple of recent examples:

Former President Obama blasting President Trump for sending National Guard Troops to the border to slow the illegal crossings into the US. President Obama did the same exact thing.

The Republican party was all for looser border controls in the 90's because they believed it would lead to higher voter turnout for their party. Democrats was 100% against it. Now the role is reversed.

So for me there is no liberal/conservative view on this strike. If you think there is, then you (a generalization term) are just trying stoke the fire.

This guy has been labeled a Terrorist by the US government for at least 3 presidents. I also believe he was labeled a terrorist by the UN, but would have to look it up to be 100% positive.

As for the strike, it needed to happen over a decade ago when Iran was producing EFP's and sending them to the Shia militias in Iraq that were killing troops. If you try to defend why we shouldn't have killed him then I don't know what to say to you to see the positive here.

This guy ordered an attack that killed an American last week, and injured 4 troops. That's all the news showed you. My buddy who is a contractor there in Kirkuk also took shrapnel, so there was at least 5 injured and I am positive there were more. He luckily was wearing his vest that stopped a piece of shrapnel. So my view on this has a little more personal feelings rather than rational feelings. He also ordered the Embassy "protest" and according to Pompeio and Schiff (just watched his interview on CNN) he was planning more attacks. Obviously they both couldn't say what it was. And obviously Schiff didn't think we should have struck last night.

The way I see this playing out:
There will be riots in the middle east. Iran will speak loud hard words, but they are nothing more than a large barking dog with no bite as a nation. But they don't have to do anything as a nation to be effective. They will fund more terrorist groups causing even more death among locals, US forces and UN soldiers. It'll be big news for a couple of weeks at most and we will all forget about them again.

I have had zero want / need to go back over there to work. But, anything to do with Saudia Arabia (never going to happen) or Iran I'd sign right back up. Both of those nations needs to feel a reckoning that only the might of the US forces can bring to them.

It was also Iraq's duty to protect (outside) the Embassy but they were nowhere to be found. Iraq is nothing more than a puppet nation. They are a puppet to the US and Iran. They are irrelevant as a government

There was a guy on CNN that just went off the air. I think he explained it pretty well, and probably surprised the host by his answer because it didn't fit their narrative.

He said President Trump has been patient with Iran thru multiple attacks; Saudi oil fields, Embassy attack, rocket attacks in Syria, attacking oil ships.... But Trump has had one hard "red line" and that was the death of an American at their hands. He has always said that was his red line, and unlike Obama and his "red line" of chemical weapons he took action. Like him or hate him, like the idea of taking down a terrorist or not. You have to like the fact that what he says he will do when it comes to American lives in that region.

What is the liberal take on this? Don't give me the "he needed to run this by congress for approval" either. That would be the lamest argument and easily defended against when put up against President Obamas use of drones as well. The idiots on CNN and MSNBC say he needed to confer with his generals. A quick search shows that General Milley, Joint Chiefs of Staff, explained why it needed to be done, even with the potential consequences.

I don't think I have the liberal take on this. I think its a bit more complicated than he is a terrorist, kill him but I kinda look at the history of the Middle East and America's role. I have no issue with them killing the dude, he is clearly a shit head. At the end of the day it does not address or change anything. The root issue of these problems over there we will never actually attempt to address.

I agree in the greater scheme of things his killing doesn't change a thing, except how good it feels to know a man that was behind a lot of maimings and death is no longer around. But who is to say the next guy is any better?

The problem in the middle east is their tradition of conflict and war. That is all they know. I think it's the heat, at +120* you'll do about anything, to include war. It fucks with your brain

He was a terrorist that was the Director of a US recognized terrorist organization on foreign soil in which US soldiers are lawfully on the same foreign land, had just committee terrorist acts against America, his terrorist acts are responsible for the deaths of thousands of Americans over the years(mostly soldiers in the ME), and he had plans for more eminent attacks, and he was with other well known terrorists.

The US killed a terrorist who was plotting more terrorist attacks.
That pretty much sums it up.

nick wrote:eh. i guess Obamas a terrorist too cause he drone striked so many places and killed so many innocent civilians that hed have to be classified as a terrorist.

just for context:
Obama embraced the US drone programme, overseeing more strikes in his first year than Bush carried out during his entire presidency. A total of 563 strikes, largely by drones, targeted Pakistan, Somalia and Yemen during Obama’s two terms, compared to 57 strikes under Bush. Between 384 and 807 civilians were killed in those countries, according to reports logged by the Bureau.

While your comment was sarcasm, that's how many in the Middle East perceive America.

Yeah, I'd say that's a fair assessment.

Certainly not good that we're working under the old Bush authorization process.

What' funny though, as the extreme sides/divides seem to get bigger and bigger between the 2 parties, the news coverage and just so many people losing their minds over what Trump did is just wild to me.

Meanwhile, as it's been stated, Obama ordered strikes that killed hundreds of civilians. I also saw a Washington Post article from 2015 about how he ordered 2800 air strikes in Iraq/Syria and the article called into question that he never got congressional approval for any of them and he was using some questionable reason why he didn't need to get approval. But as for as mass media and everyone talking about it...I never heard a word about it.

But Trump kills a terrorist, and Americand are freaking out about it.

It's all so stupid.

Honestly this really isn't news. The US is consistently moving pieces like this as a show of force. They were deployed to Qatar last year to show a presence when Iran was being stupid.
