Unfortunately this is the America we live in. Everyone hates the man in the office with such a fervor is is crazy to me. They are so blinded by their hatred that they can't see that he has done the same exact thing as their beloved President Obama, but they are more outraged now. People watch 20 minutes of news and all of a sudden they become foreign policy experts and congressional experts.shel311 wrote:What' funny though, as the extreme sides/divides seem to get bigger and bigger between the 2 parties, the news coverage and just so many people losing their minds over what Trump did is just wild to me.DRiccio21 wrote:that's also how many in America perceive America.
Meanwhile, as it's been stated, Obama ordered strikes that killed hundreds of civilians. I also saw a Washington Post article from 2015 about how he ordered 2800 air strikes in Iraq/Syria and the article called into question that he never got congressional approval for any of them and he was using some questionable reason why he didn't need to get approval. But as for as mass media and everyone talking about it...I never heard a word about it.
But Trump kills a terrorist, and Americand are freaking out about it.
It's all so stupid.

Re: 2016 Presidential Election
I did get to see a B-52 strike while I was in Iraq for the fight against ISIS. Was pretty damn awesome! The B-1 Bomber had to go back to Louisiana for some upgrades so they brought this one over. We were watching a large complex with concrete bunkers, around 100 bunkers) that ISIS was using as weapons storage and VBIED storage. I had to give out the coordinates for each bunker and the B-52 hit each one on a 2 run bombing run. Pretty cool to watch.GeorgesGoons wrote:Honestly this really isn't news. It's not the military action that's about to happen that concerns me, it's how the UN is going to respond.

I highly doubt that this is a calm response and the majority of the UN shies away from heavy action. I'm fairly certain that this will be one of the harshest US responses since early Bush.wdoupis wrote:Can you elaborate?ReignOnU wrote:It's not the military action that's about to happen that concerns me, it's how the UN is going to respond.

I'd like to think that civilian loss will be mitigated, but knowing the little that I do about how it is over there, I'd say that's highly unlikely... George?

North Korea when they realized they weren’t the ones to actually start WW3.

Re: 2016 Presidential Election
I spent about a year on Al Asad but that was in 2011 and I did a few months in 2005. It’s a marine base but a huge air base too. It would be very easy for rockets to hit Al Asad and harm nothing. Not sure how the place has changed the last decade though

God help the people in Iran if an American died in the attacks tonight.

Re: 2016 Presidential Election
Al Asad has changed a lot since I was there in 2011. One if my old soldiers was there in 2017, the base is about half the size it was back then. And most of the Americans are in one area. So if these ballistic rockets are pretty damn good at hitting a fairly small area, it can be a bad thing for the guys in Al Asad. But there are reports that Erbil was hit as well. When I left there it was a huge multinational compound surrounding nding Erbil international airport. A buddy in Kuwait was supposed to be going to Erbil yesterday but all flights in were cancelled yesterday, so maybe we knew this was coming thru Intel. You can only assume why he didn't travel yesterday.wdoupis wrote:I spent about a year on Al Asad but that was in 2011 and I did a few months in 2005. It’s a marine base but a huge air base too. 4 of the missiles didn’t even make it. Sad. Iran’s a joke

Supposedly Iran told Finland prior to the attacks. And there were talks of deliberate misses, but I don't believe this one bit. Why tell a third party to just miss on purpose.

Re: 2016 Presidential Election
Could be a handful of reasons... coalition forces on the bases? Dog and pony show for their royal guard? Cop out reason to call it even for the terrorist general? Seems pretty unlikely that they go 0/15 unless it's intentional. Regardless, no casualties, thankfully. Would be nice to send them a harshly written letter and move on, as long as we don't have reliable intelligence that says otherwise.

Interested to hear George's take on this. From my outsider/zero knowledge perspective, it would seem nearly impossible to go 0 for 15...unless they were North Korea.ReignOnU wrote:Seems pretty unlikely that they go 0/15 unless it's intentional.

If they did it intentionally, I agree that we just let it go and be done with it as of now. Things like this shouldn't get sooooooo political but...If that's the way this goes down, that is a HUGE win for Trump, and quite the L for the Democrats.

Re: 2016 Presidential Election
I've done zero research on what they launched. If it was the same type of SCUD missle of the 1st gulf war (1991) then it could have been their intention to hit the target and missed on all of them. The Avionics in this rockets back then were so bad that you had to duck in France and Australia if they were launching at a target 3 miles away. I believe they were the SCUD-B or SCUD-C.shel311 wrote:Interested to hear George's take on this. But with technology today I just don't see them missing that badly, but at the same time I question what kind of technology they have their hands on.
My budy who is in Kirkuk said they received barages of rockets again from the Shia (Iran backed) malitias. They also attacked with small arms and mortars. He said this happened throughout Iraq but is not getting the air time due to the ballistic rocket attack.
