Daily Social Distancing Happy Hour on the block started a tad earlier today
Are Rehabs considered essential and open during a pandemic?

Asking for a friend...
Been a couple times I wanted to ask, are you doing ok buddy? That is coming from me even though the more fun me retired a few years ago
Thursday’s are an even pre-pandemic tradition for almost a year now.

But yea, I drink daily at this point and it keeps our sanity as we all social distance. We all convene around 430,5 and drink until 10,11.

Thank you covid!!
I hope this tradition is still going when I move to Dallas to watch Luka every night.
Brand new house behind me is for sale. Make it happen!!

About 9 of us tonight. You could be that threshold of 10 recommended by the CDC!

Caught the ass end of the news segment. Utah is getting COVID money for water purification. Kentucky getting some money for sun-screen research.

Go ahead and say it Shel, keep voting D or R

And you know I am right that it will take a huge movement to make change and we won't see it in our lifetime.

But yea, politicians are assholes and corrupt.

If true it makes COVID mortality rate right in line with the flu but the obvious issue still being slowing it down as even if it's "just the flu" we're not equipped to fight 2 flus essentially.
Dr Fauci co-authored a report in the New England(Spitters suck) Journal of Medicine in which he says COVID may be more like a severe seasonal flu.

people are too worried about losing.

So you get a guy like Ross Perot, he took a lot of the Republican votes away causing the Republican to lose the presidency. Now think if Bernie threw his hat in as an Independent. He'd split the Democrat vote causing them to lose the presidency.

There is more on the line than, let's just do it because it'll be better in the long run. Because nobody can say it would be better in the long run for sure. And losing the House/Senate/Presidency has consequences both sides (voters) don't want to have to deal with.

TIL the seasonal flu mortality rates aren't calculated similarly to COVID where we take the actual # of positive tests and then deaths.

For seasonal flu, it's all assumed rates based on how bad the strand is for that given flu season.

If we calculated mortality rates for flu exactly the same way we're doing for COVID, the flu mortality rate would similarly be near 4%.

According to the American Lung Association, 3,000 to 49,000 Americans die from influenza-related causes each year.

from CDC Site - 3% (lol) to 11% (lol) of Americans get the flu every year.
at 3% getting and 4% death rate, 392k Americans would die
at 11% getting and 4% death rate, 1.4million Americans would die

Lets go to 1.5% death rate (US currently)
at 3% getting and 4% death rate, 147k Americans would die
at 11% getting and 4% death rate, 539k Americans would die

so which of these is even remotely close to 49k? Just curious.

NOW.. lets use info I just found from this year.

https://www.cnbc.com/2020/02/03/the-flu ... virus.html

At least 19 million people have come down with the flu in the U.S. with 180,000 ending up in the hospital, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. [the flu has quietly killed 10,000 in the U.S. so far this influenza season.]

hate to break it to you but 10k of 19m is not even remotely close to the current death rate. (0.05% to US's 1.5%)

yes

https://www.cdc.gov/flu/about/keyfacts.htm

How Many People Get Sick with Flu Every Year?
A 2018 CDC study published in Clinical Infectious Diseasesexternal icon looked at the percentage of the U.S. population who were sickened by flu using two different methods and compared the findings. Both methods had similar findings, which suggested that on average, about 8% of the U.S. population gets sick from flu each season, with a range of between 3% and 11%, depending on the season.

Why is the 3% to 11% estimate different from the previously cited 5% to 20% range?

The commonly cited 5% to 20% estimate was based on a study that examined both symptomatic and asymptomatic influenza illness, which means it also looked at people who may have had the flu but never knew it because they didn’t have any symptoms. The 3% to 11% range is an estimate of the proportion of people who have symptomatic flu illness.
