The curve definitely seems to be slowly flattening based on recent numbers but the last time it seemed that way there was a big jump.

Ya I was gonna post something about noticing that case to case additions it seems like us hit the peak. Problem is “peak” still looks like 30k new cases a day. Hopefully goes down as the next old person who looks at me like I’m the grim reaper when I pass them is gonna get an earful

Re: COVID-19
Also true.
A sustained, long period of 30k new cases a day will only drag this out and wear down the medical system almost as bad depending on the timeframe.
I am just happy to see some good news for once.

Everywhere I read says to give it 5-7 days worth of a trend due to the data sometimes coming in a couple of days late, making it look like you've had a couple of successful days, then a bunch of cases that weren't recorded those days all get dumped over the next couple of days.

Re: COVID-19
Bill Gates gets the gold star from me today. I was just reading how he's going to fund production of 7 vaccine candidates immediately, before they are tested and approved. When one of them is chosen as the recommended vaccine, he'll refocus efforts on that specific one. He's openly throwing billions down the drain to support the production of the other 6 vaccines. (could even be 7 if none of them come through)

Re: COVID-19
Anyone watch that show Pandemic on Netflix?
It was really scientific and not that entertaining but timely considering I watched it as the virus grew here.
One of the candidates on the show got a grant from the Gates foundation for their universal vaccine project and was cool to see the process.
I have to go back and see if they progressed any further since then.

Meanwhile, we have "legit" news outlets posting this stuff:
https://twitter.com/CBSNews/status/1246 ... 96961?s=20
Watch the video, it's terrifying. Poor lady is completely overwhelmed.
**********************************************************************************************************************
Then read the comments:
- CBS posts on the thread more than a day later:
"Imaris Vera, the nurse in this video, clarified her experience on Monday in a tweet: "We were each assigned 1 N95 per 1 covid patient’s room but was not allowed to wear it outside of the room, wear our own N95 mask around the Nurses station or Halls, which I came prepared with."
Internet follow-up shows that the lady involved hadn't been an active nurse recently. She previous quit her career to try to be an Instagram influencer. She has a self-stated history of depression and bi-polar. On her first day back at the hospital, she freaked out, quit, then posted this.
CBS made no effort to vet the validity of the person or the story. They threw it up for 55k people to like and potentially over 1m (5% like ratio) to view. It was retweeted nearly 24k times, which could lead to massive, exponential visibility. Out of the significant amount of people that viewed this, took it as fact... how many likely know the real story?

Re: COVID-19
From the NY Times news section, not op ed, a "neutral" news organization according an image posted in this thread yesterday...
Trump’s Aggressive Advocacy of Malaria Drug for Treating Coronavirus Divides Medical Community
One of the topics noted is this:
So you'd think that a neutral site, with high ranking members of the team, would post solid news information and not misinform... or let's just be honest here, disinform their audience....
Trump’s personal stake in the malaria-drug maker Sanofi could be as small as $99
This article was posted this morning and explains how much he may have. As a follow up to that, another site posted the specific details. It's the same as you or I have between $1,000-$15,000 in a typical blended retirement fund and that fund happens to have 2.9% of the assets in Sanofi. Hell, I'd bet that some of us here likely have that. The original article makes it seem like our president is out here making life altering decisions based on his financial investment... of $29 to $435.

One of the topics noted is this:
There are 4 contributing members to the article, including their Chief White House correspondent Peter Baker (also the author of Impeachment: An American History) and David Enrich, the business investigations editor (also the author of Dark Towers (about Deutsche Bank and Trump)).As of last year, Mr. Trump reported that his three family trusts each had investments in a Dodge & Cox mutual fund, whose largest holding was in Sanofi.

Caveat.... It is possible the delivery from the anchor was misunderstood by me as well.
There is so much half truths going on with the media. This morning I watched CNN say that 41% of deaths in Detroit were people of color. They also said that the population there is only 14% black (which is true if it was all of America but they didn't clarify that). Half of that was correct, 41% of deaths are of black folks. But the Detroit population is 88% black, so you would assume that 41% should be much higher.ReignOnU wrote: ↑Tue Apr 07, 2020 12:50 pm Meanwhile, we have "legit" news outlets posting this stuff:

Re: COVID-19
From USA Today:
The majority of New York’s more than 4,700 deaths due to coronavirus were among men, and 86% of all deaths were among people who had underlying illnesses, such as hypertension and diabetes, new state data shows.

Re: COVID-19
The “underlining conditions” statement is so nauseating. Damnnn near everyone has underlining conditions. A lot of westerners are pre diabetic. A lot of westerners smoke and are overweight and a lot of westerners have hypertension aka high blood pressure (that’s the new word of the month btw).

I must be in the minority then, as I have zero of those conditions at 43 years old.nick wrote: ↑Tue Apr 07, 2020 2:19 pm The “underlining conditions” statement is so nauseating.
