A lot of westerners smoke and are overweight and a lot of westerners have hypertension aka high blood pressure (that’s the new word of the month btw).
I must be in the minority then, as I have zero of those conditions at 43 years old.

https://www.reddit.com/r/COVID19/ is where people post research articles and science and shit.. not just fear mongering.

Previous US high for deaths in a day was 1330.

Looks like we are 1845 day and counting.

https://www.researchgate.net/publicatio ... ardy_Italy

In the night of February 20, 2020, the first case of novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19) was confirmed in the Lombardy Region, Italy. In the week that followed, Lombardy experienced a very rapid increase in the number of cases. We analyzed the first 5,830 laboratory-confirmed cases to provide the first epidemiological characterization of a COVID-19 outbreak in a Western Country. Epidemiological data were collected through standardized interviews of confirmed cases and their close contacts. We collected demographic backgrounds, dates of symptom onset, clinical features, respiratory tract specimen results, hospitalization, contact tracing. We provide estimates of the reproduction number and serial interval. The epidemic in Italy started much earlier than February 20, 2020. At the time of detection of the first COVID-19 case, the epidemic had already spread in most municipalities of Southern-Lombardy. The median age for of cases is 69 years (range, 1 month to 101 years). 47% of positive subjects were hospitalized. Among these, 18% required intensive care. The mean serial interval is estimated to be 6.6 days (95% CI, 0.7 to 19). We estimate the basic reproduction number at 3.1 (95% CI, 2.9 to 3.2). We estimated a decreasing trend in the net reproduction number starting around February 20, 2020. We did not observe significantly different viral loads in nasal swabs between symptomatic and asymptomatic. The transmission potential of COVID-19 is very high and the number of critical cases may become largely unsustainable for the healthcare system in a very short-time horizon. We observed a slight decrease of the reproduction number, possibly connected with an increased population awareness and early effect of interventions. Aggressive containment strategies are required to control COVID-19 spread and catastrophic outcomes for the healthcare system.

The Covid tracking website has reduced their projections again.

Now at 60k deaths, with the peak coming in 4 days on the 12th.

We all know this can swing wildly in either direction, but there's that positive news! And hoping it falls in line somewhat with this updated timeline.

Smallest sample size ever but seems like plasma treatment may be working in Italy.

New York will know in 2-3 weeks as they’re aggressively trying this as well.

They should be actively testing people who think they may have had it in Jan-Mar so they can donate plasma

Hmm... I feel like there's something we don't know that's not being discussed, or maybe the absurd amount of end of the world coverage is clouding my mind.

I don't see how we've fundamentally done anything other than stall this. Yes we've managed to 'flatten' the curve nationwide by delaying the peak with distancing, but peaking in 4 days has to have some serious assumption that we maintain pretty strict measures for a long (+3 months) period of time. 3-4 weeks of distancing isn't nearly enough to thin out the peaks that many previously showed. That is, unless all of the models were that intentionally inflated to error excessively on the side of caution.

Would seem like a pretty bold move to have your model drop to 60k and not be pretty confident that it's accurate. It's one thing to say "we had 1m deaths projected, but you guys crushed it and really did a great job," versus "well, we used poor data and only came up with 60k, sorry you lost 200k."

It won’t be eradicated. It will just stall for a few months like it took it to go from china. But ppl will always be sick in small pockets. Then a second wave will come. Then a third. The Spanish flu was deadliest during the third wave.

Hopefully this one is backwards.

Everything being done is to protect the health care system from an entire collapse.

Deaths in the US are likely way overstated.

Dr Birx finally admitted yesterday what I've been alleging for awhile now, any COVID related death is being counted towards the death total.

I'm sure you can attribute many to COVID as the catalyst to jump start it for someone with underlying conditions that make it fair. But obviously, a good portion of those may not have anything whatsoever to do with COVID but are being classified as such.

Also, this explains why heart attacks and pneumonia death weekly totals have fallen off a cliff since the rise of COVID.
