2077 Draft Review

Post by GeorgesGoons »

Round 1
Omaha Beef - P Alfredo Ortega
The best pitcher and player in the draft according to my scout. Right handed pitcher with some good stuff/movement/control. Should become an Ace once fully developed. If the Beef infield stays the same by the time he comes up he'll be aided by a good defensive infield. Has 2 plus plus pitches, 1 very good pitch and a changeup that'll never develop. Fills the need for some pitching in the long run for the Beef.

Cookeville Cubs - CF Mike Krieger
My scout had him ranked as the second best CF'er in the draft. Defensively he can play LF at a near elite level and CF at a very good level. One thing that will hold him back at the plate is his lack of eye, he'll probably top out at 20-30 BB's a season. He should hit for nearly .300 each season once he develops. CF Ernest Sammways (AA) probably would do better at RF and let Krieger play CF once everyone is in the majors.

Houston Alcoholics - P Dennis Bryant
A Righty with good potential. Has a plus fast ball and two very good pitches. If the changeup develops it would be his best pitch to pair with his 97MPH fastball. His lack of movement will keep him back though and will probably be no better than a #3 starter. Kind of a reach when there were better starters available.

Los Angeles Bomb Squad - P Jim Melanson
Righty who is very good at everything. My scout had him as the #2 pitcher in the draft. He'll probably end up being a captain once he fully matures. My scout sees him as a mid-rotation to a #2 starter. Once on the Bomb Squad will become the best pitching prospect in the organization.

Port Orange Hawks - 2B Phil Small
Best bat in the draft according to my scout. Was actually going to draft him because I am short a talented 2B in the organization but decided to go with the best player and hope for the best. Small should hit around .310 with a .390+ OBP while getting plenty of doubles for Port Orange. Defensively looks to be competent and will not cost the Hawks runs.

Rose City Beaver Bashers - P Robert Brewer
Impressive 34-0 in High School with a sub 0.80 ERA. He would have been a top pick if OOTP didn't screw up the changeup logic in the game. With the lack of changeup development he will be relegated to be a MR for his career unless OOTP changes with the next version.

Baltimore Red Crabs - P Patrick Hancock
Great things coming Baltimore's way. Already the best team in the league with some amazing pitching prospects in the farm. Unfortunately this does not add to their depth. My scout does not like him at all with his lack of movement and control, both below 45 potential.

Fresno Grizzlies - P Bill Wurzback
Looks to be a 6 inning pitcher unless he is being read and then it'll be a short night with his borderline stamina for a starter (53). His slider is a plus plus pitch and should help him out a lot. Has 2 other good pitches that'll help him out and that dumb ass changeup. Probably projects to be a #3 or #4 starter unless the changeup develops.

Bowie Bulldogs - CF Phil Watts
CF'er with some pop in his bat. May end up topping out around .270 batting average with a decent amount of walks. Has blazing speed with a decent steal rating and should be able to track down near anything in the OF, whether he catches it or commits an error is a coin flip.

Anchorage Eskimos - 3B Mario Carrillo
With Julio Ramos may need to move him to 1B as Ramos is the better fit at the hot corner. Should end up being a decent 1B when it is all said and done with. Or he could be trade bait for someone that needs a 3B. He could end up hitting 30+ HR's while hitting .300.

Boston Minutemen - P Chandler Román
Roman is an interesting pick. He has 2 great pitches an okay pitch and another that I wouldn't even call a pitch. Are those 2 great pitches good enough to become a starter? Time will only tell. Definitely thought there was better pitching talent available at this spot in the draft and much better bats to secure than taking a flyer on Roman.

Youngstown Mafia - 3B Josh Nelson
OSA likes this guy, my scout does not at all. Should be able to hit for decent average and get some extra base hits but not much power or an eye to really be an offensive threat. So he has to rely on his defense at 3B, which should be good enough to keep in a lineup even with a below 100 OPS+.

Rhode Island Red Wolves - 3B Jason Connor
Good defensive 3B that should be considered a career year if he hits .260. OSA likes him a LOT more than my scout and if he develops to OSA's ratings he could be a .280/30/90 guy. Let's see where he ends up at.

Winterfell Direwolves - P Bruce Powell
Good control potential, but I don't see much in the way of starter potential here. His best pitch is his splitter which grades out as decent as well as his fastball, but his next two pitches he should forget how to pitch as he will get rocked when he throws them.

Philadelphia Cheesesteaks - P David Brewer
100% had to think he was drafting Robert Brewer. This is one of those picks that you'd expect Shelton to make. Guy should be released as soon as he gets to the organization.

D.P.R.K Victory - P Raúl Rivera
A finesse pitcher if I've ever seen one, tops out at BP speed. Good thing he has good control and movement, otherwise this guy would be better used as tossing hotdogs 3 rows away. He will be destined to be a long reliever in AA once he fully matures.

San Francisco Seals - SS Richard Barbosa
Home Run or bust, with great defense. This is a good pickup as there is zero SS depth in the organization.

San Diego Invaders - P Jack Hughes
Power pitcher who will be close to 99mph once fully developed. I see a lot of people scared to face him though, not so much because of the speed of his pitches, but because nobody really knows if he'll be in the strikezone or in the middle of your back. If he had another 10-15 points on his control he could easily be a #2 pitcher, but he is destined to be a #5 at best as it stands now.

Cleveland Spiders - P Ron Gross
Not sure where he fits as a pitcher. Does not have one good pitch but can pinpoint whatever he throws pretty well. I don't think he will ever get above AA, maybe AAA if he is throwing batting practice.

Edmonton Mounties - 2B Dave Gray
Solid all around guy who will have a decent career but nobody will know who he is as there is nothing that stands out for him. He'll probably hit .275/20/80 with decent defense at 2B.

Miami Vice - CF César Lucas
Absolutely pains me to say this, AMAZING pick this late in the round. There will be 5-10 owners kicking themselves in the ass for not getting Lucas. His potential does not reflect his ratings at all. 100% not a CF, but will do well enough in LF to keep a spot in the majors once developed. I really hope this guy loses a leg in an accident because I don't want to hear Nick chirp how he got him this late in the first round.

Seattle Windstorm - C Mike Vickers
Probably the best catcher in the draft. Won't wow anyone with his bat but will make the MLB due to his ability behind the plate and the arm he possesses keeping runners from stealing. Pair him up with some pitchers that know how to hold runners and teams will have a hard time stealing against the Windstorm.

New England Spitters - P Ed Davenport
Future Captain. Once again we get to the dreaded changeup, if it develops an amazing pick at the end of the 1st round. If not, he'll be a good reliever.

Atlanta Bobcats - CF Nathan Ford
Definitely shouldn't have been on the board this long. Definitely not a CF'er you want when you need a defensive play but could play LF competently. Won't hurt you with his bat either, just don't expect superstar numbers.

Alabama Bears - CF David Brady
Should be able to make the big leagues based on his defense and decent bat. He'll definitely be relegated to the bottom half of the batting order as he just doesn't do anything spectacular with the stick.

Sheltown Shockers - RF Pedro Ramos
After Philly took David Brewer, who should have gone undrafted, I couldn't wait to see how Shelton fucked up his pick. And to my disappointment he didn't screw it up too bad. If I were running the Shockers, I'd move Ramos to 1B and force him to learn that position right away. He'll never be a viable option in the OF, but he may have a shot at becoming a decent enough 1B. His stick looks to be reasonable and should put up average to slightly above average numbers.

Richmond Greeks - P Allen Holman
Destined to be a reliever. Don't really see much upside besides that to be honest. If OOTP 22 fixes the changeup logic he could top out as a 6th or 7th starter.

Washington Thunder Crabs - P Roger O'Brien
Not sure he'll ever make the MLB as a starter with zero movement on his pitches. O'Brien does have some overpowering stuff and that may be enough to negate the lack of movement on his pitches. Couple his stuff with his ability to keep a locker room together he may get a shot, most likely as a reliever

Moose Jaw Diamond Dogs - 2B Chris Berry
Not sure where he fits in to be honest. Has a good bat but does nothing special with his glove. Do you put him in at 2B and just be okay with -10ZR from him? He isn't your typical power hitting DH type either. I guess this is where Ryan has to figure out does his bat outweigh his glove in the long run.

New York Ducks - 3B António Gómez
Could compete for the HR title once he develops but won't hit for any kind of respectable average while drawing 60 or so walks. He has a cannon at the hot corner and should play decent defense over there.

Boston Minutemen - P Leonardo Reyes
Corey redeems himself with this pick compared to the Roman pick. He won't be an ace on any team but he'll be better than a spot starter. I foresee him topping out as a #3 pitcher. Anyone outside of the team he is pitching for may not hear of him but he should be reliable enough to throw out there and not get too embarrassed.

Round 2
Omaha Beef - P Eric Swanson
The goal of the Beef was to stay away from 3 pitch pitchers that had a changeup as one of their pitches. We succeeded again with this pick. Swanson should be an innings eater and can top out as a #3 pitcher if everything goes right for him, but most likely will be a decent #4 and a great #5 option.

Cookeville Cubs - P Will Skinner
A flame thrower who should have been picked in the first round after looking at some of those awful pitching picks. He should definitely make the MLB with a ceiling of a #2 or #3 on a mediocre team, on a top team he'll be a good #3 and a great #4 pitcher.

Houston Alcoholics - P Duane Smith
A screwball pitcher that has a tenancy to be injured, not sure that's a good combo but time will tell. He'll never become a viable starter though with his lack of stamina, but he might be one of those guys you want to dabble in the follower role.

Los Angeles Bomb Squad - P Brenton Collins
Great control and stuff, not so great and damn near horrible movement. If he can pinpoint his pitches the lack movement may not factor in on how he does in the majors. May end up being one of those famous Riccio AAAA guys.

Port Orange Hawks - CF Michael MacGregor
A defensive guru roaming CF. He could easily be a 30/30 guy but not sure he can get on base enough to get the 30 steals. He should hit around the Mendoza line, strike out 200+ times and have 10-20 walks.

Rose City Beaver Bashers - 3B Josh Dye
A solid option at 3B. Will play pretty good defense while having an average stat line at the plate. Nothing special here but definitely not a guy you would hate you drafted.

Baltimore Red Crabs - SS Daniel Davis
My guess is this pick was made with the though that the Red Crabs needed a utility infielder. I'm just sure there were better options out there at this pick than a utility infielder and probably could have been picked up in the 3rd round instead of reaching in the 2nd.

Fresno Grizzlies - CF Luis Gómez
Should have an average defensive career, may be able to make it to the Majors but not sure he'll stay for long.

Bowie Bulldogs - CF Nathan Phillipson
I like this pick, but it's interesting since Bowie picked another CF'er in the first round. I think this pick or the 1st round pick gets moved to LF which gives the Bulldogs a pretty decent start to a good defensive OF.

Anchorage Eskimos - RF Mark Larson
Not sure he has the arm to play RF. May end up needing to learn how to play LF to extend his career. His offensive stat line could look like this: .255/20/70

Boston Minutemen - P Roy Coulter
Another reliever when it's all said and done, unless 22 fixes the changup logic. If the logic is fixed Coulter could be a decent starter when it's all said and done.

Youngstown Mafia - 1B Tim Preston
Destined to be a DH or the owner will be okay with giving up a run here and there with this 5 thumbed fielder. His bat looks to be respectable enough to make the majors, if he could increase his eye he would be a very good offensive option.

Rhode Island Red Wolves - RF Chuck Turner
Not a bad pick here. I like his personality and his ability with the bat. Won't be a superstar and his defense may hold him back a little.

Winterfell Direwolves - P Gonzalo Guerrero
Obviously this was a straight OSA pick. Has great control according to OSA with a 109 potential. But, that is the only thing he does well. Could end up being a long reliever at best.

Philadelphia Cheesesteaks - CF Robert Pierce
A defensive speedster. Not sure he'll be any more than a guy who bats 8th or 9th but should be given a chance in the MLB based on his defense alone.

D.P.R.K Victory - RF Larry Snow
An extremely MEH pick. Probably tops out as a AA all star when he is 27 years old.

San Francisco Seals - P Patrick Alexander
If future drafts are as bad as this one, Alexander could become a viable option as a starter in the MLB. If this draft was truly an outlier (according to my scout) then Alexander will be destined to bounce back and forth between AAA and the MLB.

San Diego Invaders - P Ross McGowan
A decent pick just past the halfway point in the 2nd round. McGowan should be able to see some MLB service time while being a leader in the clubhouse.

Cleveland Spiders - P Roy Davis
If he ends up starting on anyone's roster there are bigger problems in the organization. Should be an okay option at long relief though.

Edmonton Mounties - 3B Teddy Hayden
Dude could possibly hit 50 HR's once he makes it to the bigs. Has a cannon for an arm but not much range and he will boot a ball more often than most MLB 3B.

Miami Vice - SS Henry Regis
A good defensive option up the middle. Won't wow anyone with his bat but wont embarrass his dad either.

Seattle Windstorm - CF Jimmy Bell
A borderline CF'er, probably better off playing LF. Could end up swiping 40 bases in a year. He is not a threat to go deep but should end up with enough doubles and triples to where he could leadoff with some decent bats behind him.

New England Spitters - RF Jorge González
A good RF'er with a cannon for an arm. Should easily swipe 25-30 bags as well as adding 25-30 doubles. Not really a threat do go deep but can turn on a pitch and park it in the stands 15-20 times a year.

Atlanta Bobcats - P Ernie Young
Another relief pitcher at best.

Alabama Bears - P Paul Smith
Looks like we are getting to slim pickings here with the pitchers. There probably shouldn't be another pitcher selected for another round or 2.

Sheltown Shockers - RF Dave Christian
Not a bad pick. I am almost certain Shelton had someone else put his list together at this point.

Richmond Greeks - CF Rafael Negrón
May be able to make the MLB, but I wouldn't expect anything special from him.

Washington Thunder Crabs - P Richard Franks
Ole Dicky boy here could probably start pitching at SA or A ball right away. All of his pitches are pretty much developed and will need his control to develop before he ends up as a mediocre AA reliever.

Moose Jaw Diamond Dogs - P Michael Miller
How this guy ended up 27-0 in high school is beyond me. He has 2 okay pitches and a horrible 3rd pitch. Says he was born in LA, but he must have moved early on in life to Maine where baseball isn't really a big sport.

New York Ducks - P Héctor Franco
HIs 3B should duck every time he pitches. This dude has zero control and reminds me of a wild John Rocker.

Miami Vice - RF Sixto Álvarez
Another guy that may need to learn how to play 1B, or learn to be happy playing in AA for his whole career.

Sheltown Shockers - SS Arnie Lewis
May be able to play defensive at the MLB level. Not sure his bat will be good enough to play in the majors though.

Round 3
Omaha Beef - CF Jorge Arredondo
May top out as a utility OF'er, but will be only limited to LF and CF. He does not have the arm to play RF.

Cookeville Cubs - C Tristan Holden
May end up being one of the better catchers in the league in 8 - 10 years. That is not a testament to how good he is, just how bad of a run of catchers we have seen in the draft over the past decade as a whole.

Houston Alcoholics - 3B Marcus Rogers
Should play well at 3B with the arm he has. His bat is decent enough and if the drafts moving forward are like this he should have a productive career.

Los Angeles Bomb Squad - CF Peter Bergeron
Surprisingly my scout likes him better than the OSA scout. Not saying that is a good thing as OSA has him as a AA all star.

Port Orange Hawks - P Matt Roberson
If he ever makes the MLB, he could win a gold glove as a pitcher.

Rose City Beaver Bashers - CF John White
Looky here, another CF'er in this draft. I honestly don't think I saw one that was labeled as a LF'er. If he ever makes the MLB he could thrive as the guy that either gets a sac bunt down or bunts for a hit.

Baltimore Red Crabs - P Justin Moran
No movement or control but is by far a better option that some of the other pitchers that were selected this round. Could thrive as a reliever in AAA.

Fresno Grizzlies - P Danny Cote
I'd just release him, unless you want him to clog up your SA team in 5 years.

Bowie Bulldogs - 1B Adam Chase
Future DH with some pop. Could hit 35 HR's in a year.

Boston Minutemen - 2B Roosevelt Parker
He has the makeup of a guy I like to go after in the 5th or 6th round, high contact/gap/avoid k. But with this draft he is worth the reach in the 3rd round.

Youngstown Mafia - CF Melvin Tatum
See above for Danny Cote

Rhode Island Red Wolves - 1B Brett Ransom
.260/18/70 is probably a career year for Ransom

Winterfell Direwolves - P George O'Brian
Don't see much upside as of right now.

Philadelphia Cheesesteaks - CF Juanito Jiménez
It's getting bad now, hard to find good traits that may bring them up to the majors. He's fast and plays good defense.

D.P.R.K Victory - P Joe Ellis
Look out A Ball, he will be a stud reliever in 8 years.

San Diego Invaders - RF Javier Bruno
Could lead the league in HR's and K's

Cleveland Spiders - P William Burton
OSA likes this guy a hell of a lot more than any other pitcher in this round and probably last round as well. More of a finesse pitcher with great control. Nice pick in the 3rd round seeing how this draft class is.

Edmonton Mounties - P John English
28-1 as a high school pitcher, he may have been better suited to go to college and perfect his game and may have become a 1st round pick.

Miami Vice - 2B Mario Jiménez
Decent pick here. May never be a good option to play defense but his bat is okay enough.

Seattle Windstorm - P Michael King
The first "reliever" to come off the board.

New England Spitters - P Josh Fitzell
May be an okay reliever in AA.

Atlanta Bobcats - 2B Wade McIntyre
See: Boston Minutemen - 2B Roosevelt Parker

Alabama Bears - CF Chance Murphy
Once again, another CF'er in the draft. Has great speed and great defensive ability.

Sheltown Shockers - CF Michael Jackson
We all know this won't be the Thriller version and more likely like the Invincible version of his great grand dad

Richmond Greeks - P Tom Anderson
Should be a viable option out of the pen in the MLB.

Washington Thunder Crabs - P Manny Martínez
Another guy that should do well out of the bullpen.

Moose Jaw Diamond Dogs - SS Otto McMillan
Should be considered to start on a .500 or below team. Should probably be the #2 hitter with his ability to get on base and ability to sacrifice bunt.

New York Ducks - CF Sam Taylor
Interesting he lasted this long. Probably should have been taken late 2nd round or early 3rd round.
