Agreed. I'm sure there's a work around to keep it from impacting cap/spending.Weasel wrote: ↑Tue Feb 01, 2022 11:28 amI would suspect Tampa makes him wholeGeorgesGoons wrote: ↑Tue Feb 01, 2022 11:21 am Really thought Brady would have waited till after Friday to announce his retirement. I imagine he can announce it today but simply file the official paperwork after the date he needs to.

With as terrible as Cincinnati’s O-line can be I wouldn’t be shocked if Aaron Donald won it. He can have a huge game against that line.GeorgesGoons wrote: ↑Tue Feb 01, 2022 11:22 amOnly way Kupp wins SB MVP is he has over 200 yards receiving with over 100 YAC, or has a ST touchdown that changes the game. Stafford wins MVP if the Rams wins, I'd bet big money on that

Ken Dorsey promoted to offensive coordinator in Buffalo.
Love that fella and hope he dominates with one of the best young QBs in the game.

Re: NFL Thread
Welp, this is a wild NFL story.
Brian Flores is suing the NFL for discrimination because he claims the Giants had settled on Daboll before he interviewed. Flores interviewed and 1 day later, Daboll was hired.
So how did Flores know they settled in Daboll before he interviewed? He submitted as evidence texts from Bill Belichick congratulating him on being hired before his scheduled interview...only for Belichick to realize he had the wrong "Brian" meaning to text Daboll and accidentally texting Flores

Re: NFL Thread
This story just keeps getting more amazing. Other tidbits from the lawsuit:
- Flores claims Stephen Ross encouraged him to tamper with another player in 2019, even setting up a meeting on his yacht. And when Flores found out, he called the meeting off. It was said to be a "prominent QB" so given the timing, that's likely Tom Brady, as I think Watson would have had to be 2020, not 2019.
- Flores also claims that Stephen Ross offered him $100k under the table for every extra LOSS they had in 2019, and once they started winning, along with the other bullet point, that's when the relationship soured
And another note on the Rooney Rule thing, from reports during the Giants hiring process, they allegedly already interviewed 2 black guys before Flores, so they may have already satisfied the Rooney Rule anyway. ETA: There are conflicting reports no this, so maybe not.

Re: NFL Thread
Can we all assume / agree that Andy Reed is one of the top 3 or 4 coaches right now? If he was to quit the Chiefs and Chicago had an opening and only wanted Reed would they still have to interview minority coaches? I am completely ignorant on this rule

Re: NFL Thread
I think so, yes. Belichick obviously #1, and I'd put John Harbaugh #2, but Reid is right in the next group IMOGeorgesGoons wrote: ↑Tue Feb 01, 2022 6:46 pm Can we all assume / agree that Andy Reed is one of the top 3 or 4 coaches right now?
Yes, you have interview 2 external minority candidates. Seems NYG interviewed 2 black guys, but one was internal, so I think Flores was needed to get the 2nd external one.GeorgesGoons wrote: ↑Tue Feb 01, 2022 6:46 pm If he was to quit the Chiefs and Chicago had an opening and only wanted Reed would they still have to interview minority coaches?
But again, that's just to satisfy the Rooney Rule. Even if this is 100% true and NYG was just using him to get that 2nd external interview, I'm no legal buff but I'm not sure what law that is breaking.
The thing about Stephen Ross offering him $100k under the table to lose will be mostly glossed over but that's the biggest bombshell IMO.

Re: NFL Thread
agree with the $100k part.
Just do not understand why you HAVE to interview 2 outside minority coaches if Belichick was available and wanted to coach your team. It's almost a slap in the face to the minority coaches to just check that box. And I have no clue who NYG hired or if he was the best coach available at the time. I just think there should be some common sense applied to that rule, but understand why it's in place

Well, if nothing else, he's assured himself that he'll no longer have to attend any sham interviews to satisfy the Rooney Rule... or likely any other NFL related interviews.shel311 wrote: ↑Tue Feb 01, 2022 6:01 pm This story just keeps getting more amazing. Other tidbits from the lawsuit:

Re: NFL Thread
It's absolutely a slap in the face to be brought in just to satisfy the rule. Diversity based hiring is a whole can of worms, but there has to be a better method than what they are doing. Maybe give monetary bonuses for overall staff diversity.GeorgesGoons wrote: ↑Tue Feb 01, 2022 7:04 pm agree with the $100k part.

I don't know the exact parameters, but while they don't do this, teams are rewarded with 3rd round draft picks if they have a minor executive that leaves their organization for another org, or something like that.

Isn't that not just against the rules, but illegal?ReignOnU wrote: ↑Wed Feb 02, 2022 12:44 pm Hue Jackson suggests he was paid extra to lose
Well, I guess Hue really was good at his job. Bravo!
I assume it was in the lawsuit but I did chuckle in that every tweet I saw with quotes/screenshots all talked about, for example, the meeting with the prominent QB that Ross set up, and Flores intentionally bailed from the yacht because he knew it was tampering and didn't want to be involved. But when it came to the $100k per loss story, I never once saw the quote or screenshot where Flores said he didn't accept the money.
