Wildcat formation

Post by tkpeterson12 »

I know in prior seasons we banned the RB direct snap, does this include the Wildcat formation then? Indiana has the Wildcat in their playbook so I want to make sure before the season starts.

Great question.....I would like to think that the Wildcat (or Frog or Rebel or Homo or whatever your team uses) can be used just as it would in real life....as with everything, moderation my man....but then again, I haven't seen or used it....it might be the gayest thing in history.

I've used it a few times, can't imagine there's any kind of unfair advantage to it, only half the time did I even get positive yardage

A few playbooks have it.

I would say, if you're using the dual HB, don't be upset if someone brings the house to counter it; and it's fair because unless you have a freak HB or want to take a MAJOR risk, it totally takes the passing plays out.

Plus, I've seen no playbook that has more than 8 plays from the formation. So the ability to abuse it is low, or you'll end up docked for not mixing up your playcalling anyways.

I see nothing wrong with using it just as a team in real life would.

Thinking of Arkansas and McFadden, if a team runs it a few times, but throws it up top once with that RB or runs some kinda screen with that RB, that seems totally legit with me.

In the limited times i've used it and had it used against me, i've seen nothing wrong with it.

this is a change of pace set, as long as it is used as such then it would not bother me. If you run it all game... that different, but then again if you ran 5 wide all game it would bother me too. Mix things up and keep me guessing, these things keep the game fun & fresh!
