Plus you can actually get in between the QB and HB and pick off one of those late pitches this year. Also seeing more fumbles.

I ran into that VERY scenario in my game against ICE...I am trying to mash the shit out of the pitch button way before the defender makes contact with the QB but for some reason- the pitch comes out late as shit.....if I had it my way, that ball would have come out way before contact. But we have no control over that.

What I did was immediately dove to the ground and gave up that play.

With the higher percentages of "interceptions" of pitches, I think it has leveled out the risk/reward of the late pitch as it occurs- but it a really tight game, I am not sure if a player giving up on the play is the most prudent thing to do.

I would love to hear some input.

There is no "late pitch" in this game as it was known in last year's version. In past games you could actually time the pitch and therefore resulting in an unrealistic "late pitch". For option guys, they've realized that in this year's game, that choice has been taken away. You can hit the pitch button but the game is set up to pitch when the QB is being hit. You can pitch early, which results in a loss of yardage pretty much every time; however, you usually hit the button just before your QB gets hit. But in this year's game, the cpu will actually makes your QB hold it until after he get hit. This sucks because it results in uncontrollable pitch interceptions or fumbles (also some unrealistic pitches from behind the back) Guys who don't run option plays don't realize this I'm sure and assume..."haha, good for you that you got picked during a pitch because you were trying to do a "late pitch" This new aspect of the game sucks and is unrealistic..however if it happens there is nothing that can be done. I would've been happy if they allowed it to be a fumble instead of an interception..but whatever. So for those of you playing an option style coach, be aware that if the QB pitches unrealistically late..it's the cpu not the coach...just as well you might also be a beneficiary of that with an unrealistic pitch interception.

damn..sorry so long!

by the way...great job commishes banning the guess run and controlling the chew clock! Bravo

thats why!!!

i was playing VVV today and at least 4 times i tried to pitch and he wouldn't. I'd just eat it up and get stopped. one time i yelled PITCH THE FUCKING BALL.

In my offline dynasty for fun, it's BAD. I pitched a perfect spiral while almost falling.

First off Bill.. update to the 2010 Avatar

Secondly, PDR I would like to totally disagree with you. On the play that Bill is talking about he had his back one inch from the ground and got off a magical pitch. You say that it's the cpu, yet it doesn't always happen that way and trust me I run the option a lot, so I have seen it on the other side as well and there has been some late pitches that I have dove on as well. Late pitches are still a part of the game, not as much, but they are still there. Bill I appreciate you diving on that play, but I wish you would have thrown an incompletion on that last drive as well, but that's neither here nor there.

I couldn't agree more, and I've said this a few times.

Sometimes, I sit on the pitch button but for whatever reason, it doesnt pitch until my QB gets hit.

For that reason, personally, i'd never take a dive, and by the same token, I'd NEVER be upset if someone got a late pitch of multiple times in a game.

Exactly...plus you are not going to see guys take a dive if the cpu picks off a pitch because of that same reason. Or you won't see a guy take a dive if the cpu catches the ball after it's tipped twice by defenders. It's part of the game that is uncontrollable (for the part) so I will never expect someone to take a dive after a pitch, for any reason, or run straight out of bounds...as well as I hope my opponents don't expect it either.

Ok, so to "bottom line" this topic, it should be said that you "run the option at your own risk"- if you are lucky enough to get a late pitch off, count your blessings......if that bitch gets picked by the D.....oh well.

Take the good with the bad

in my cup game vs maryland, i ran an option play where TP was pitching way before contact, unfortunately, he didnt pitch it as in Nicks statement above, although when he did pitch it it resulted in a intercepted pitch, i felt like shit, had we not been on mic's im sure maryland's coach dealer would have thought "late pitch". It was a positive result for Maryland and had my pitch man got the ball i would have dove to the ground or what not. Anyhow, I like the option attack, its probably one of my favorite offense's to watch (ie. GT and Navy), so i throw it in there to add another element to my game......haha!

Anyhow, Thanks to the admins for the rule changes i think there awsome and i think they will provide a better overall gaming experience for everyone. We are all here to play some games and have some fun.

late pitches are bullshit.

Anyone who doesn't dive after them is lying to themselves because the defense still does the stupid swarming thing and the AI just makes the other defenders stop going after the ball and it almost always results in a big play.

It's not the computer's fault that you pitch late, it's the human not hitting the pitch button early enough to avoid this. So quit making excuses

Yea, Im torn on this issue.

It is impossible to know when your opponent hits the pitch button and no clue if it is the game or the player.

I do know its complete crap when it happens. Whether the opponent means it or not. Not saying the NDL coaches, but that EA cant develop a game to stop this late pitch crap.

I saw some dude backwards shoot it out of his ass and then another time 3 guys on him and the ball magically shoots to the pitch man.

Like I said, not really the coaches fault but more an EA thing that sucks ass.

If you are facing me, do what you gotta do. I wouldnt dock someone unless it was done like 5 or 6 times. The probability of ALl of those being EA is pretty small.

This is a very good point...I haven't seen more than one BS pitch..maybe two max thanks to the CPU in my games (which has equaled the number of BS pitch intercepts). As far as option pitches..the goal of any realistic option play is to wait until the last moment to pitch the ball in order to get the pursuit off of the pitchman. Now if it is common thing where the ball is shooting from the QB's ass in a game then yeah, it sucks. But I have certainly noticed a huge difference in this year's game as far as the cpu determining when the ball is pitched. If anyone docks points for this happening per chance one or twice...then they themselves are not playing the game for the right reasons. I would never want a guy to take a dive after a pitch interception or a when their WR catches a ball that goes through a morphed defender because it's of no control of theirs (even though BS). No matter what it's a video game, I've never played a coach where I believed their goal was to get BS pitches every play, because they react as humans and hit the pitch button when their QB is about to be hit, if it shoots out of the QB while he's being spun, that's merely a graphic animation thing just like that WR catch. I'd like to assume the best of my opponent. Also, there have been plenty of times where I've hit the button plenty early and the QB doesn't pitch the ball at all when my HB is wide open...so it does all balance out.
Again, the best way to avoid any frustrating play, communicate with your opponent instead of letting it ruin the game for you!

There are ton's of things on this game that are unexplicable bullshit. My tight end fumbles while laying on the ground my last game I just lost, should I expect my opponent to punt the ball back to me because of the EA ineptness? No I don't expect it, nor am I diving if I happen to get a pitch off late. The same goes when I get sacked for a 12 yard loss when I've been mashing the shit out of the "O" button for 3 secs. I am sure I'll get my sack yardage back if I explain that the game caused it. Bottom line, this game is 10 times better than last years. However each addition has hiccups, and this one is no exception. It is what it is.
