The rocket catch is still in Madden 09. I play in 2 leagues that play by Madden Challenge rules (pretty much means there are no rules, but you cant glitch or HB direct) and these guys are experts at rocket catching.
There are two things you can hope for when they do this:
1) You can use the big hit and hope to knock the ball out BUT if the receiver has that "good hands" icon then you may as well not even try.
2) Hope for an overthrow. I'm not sure if the rocket catch it done manually but sometimes the receiver will jump early/late and the ball will go right passed him. This usually results in a pick.
The problem in the Madden game is it can be hard to get the big hit because a lot of times the receiver is all alone do to motion...etc. I'm also unaware of what a 'buzz zone' is and how it would help.
A lot of those guys play in the Madden challenge and have videos of them doing so--they are damn good. I play straight since i don't have the time to figure out of the holes in the game nor do I enjoy that play style, but the leagues are ran very well and that is hard to come by these days.

there is a difference between "rocket catching" and throwing the ball high and having your reciever jump to catch it. I think dizzle is referring to the latter. I see it alot on slants and crossing routes where my opponent throws high and the WR jumps up and snags it. I personally have no problem with it. I try to throw high and my WR watches it sail past him to a waiting safety. I'm not sure if there is a technique involved but I have seen more than just the elite WR's do this quite a bit. If there is a technique involved then good for you guys that know it. I can't make 'em jump at all.
You cannot do the straffe catch anymore so that is not what were talking about.

bingo in the bold.
as for the high passes, half the time they happen even when you don't even want them to. ic an be trying to lead a guy with a precision pass, and my qb will throw it high causing my wr to lose momentum and get no yac rather than actually leading him. it would be very hard to restrict where the passes go. sometimes it's a great advantage with big receivers, but sometimes it's just a pain in the butt that causes problems.

ChampDizzle wrote:People use it more cause its harder and at times impossible to stop with stud wr's.
I think just because you throw high, it is not impossible to stop.
But think about it, in real life, when a lesser team plays a top team, isn't it kinda impossible to stop stud WRs.
Michael Crabtree is pretty unstoppable no matter who he plays in real life.
Line him up on 3rd and 8 against Iowa st, and he's probably coming up with the 1st down.

i just throw the ball, sometimes when you try to lead a reciever he jumps to get it. i ve never once thought that was suspect play. i ve yet to play anyone that clicks on the reciever and does a user high catch. Even the guys that are good at user catches, i havent seen it from them. i throw enough ints.

I just want to state again, I see nothing wrong with it in general. I just don't like it when it is used on almost every 3rd down where your below average defense busted their virtual balls to set up a 3rd and long and pow a high pass. My point was if someone uses 90% of the time in this situation than it can be a flaw because they use it 90% of the time.

Its precision passing, not a flaw.
This isnt stock car racing. the teams are different. some better than others. By you logic it isnt fair that your CBs arent as good as your opponents WRs, therefore, your opponent should limit his precision passing

The point the Mr. Dizzle is getting at is that it is boring and NOT FUN when a coach throws the SAME ROUTE over, and over, and over, and over. Especially when the DB has good over the top coverage on the WR and the throw is thrown short EVERY time.
It has been said OVER and OVER and OVER . . . things are OK in "MODERATION". And Mr. Dizzle is trying to say that. When a person's offense solely relies on this tatic, that is NOT moderation.
I played an individual the other day. That individual used the tactic fairly often. I would have to say it was NOT in moderation. If I were to write a coaching report it would reflect this. Good thing the game did not count for anything.

Feel free to man up after teh game on AIM and offer any advice you have for me to improve on my coaching reports.

I'm looking forward the User Pick feast I plan on having with Georgia at the end of the season...
I like User Picking, left, right, over the middle, underneath, over top, deep, short and everywhere in between...Fuck Moderation! I want a pick every time!!!! Throw me the ball!!

No, we like Riccio.
Anyway, I think I had a near-perfect coaches report last season. This is obviously because I had a bad team and lost a few games. Losing games will get you good coaching reports; it is a fact.
The lone comment I had was that I "high ball" too much at times. Well, with Griffin at the helm, it is tricky to throw a good pass.
I understand the frustration with the animation but there are a lot of times when it isn't the user's fault. I think it is silly for people to get so defensive about it.
That is my two cents. Something tells me this thread is on pace to get locked.

I sure wish off/def pass interference would be callled more in this game. I think I'm playing GTA with some of the mugging going on some plays in a game.
