teach me how to stop the rocket catch

Post by VeniVediV1ci »

I lost in the finals of my university's NCAA Football 09 challenge as Clemson vs. Ohio State. This little skinny mexican dude with a 'stache just threw bullet passes on fly patterns to Brian Hartline, took control of him and jumped like 30 yards in the air on every play. It was unstoppable, i won 38-0, 17-9, 10-7, 17-14, 12-6 and then lost due to mercy rule 21-0 because i couldn't stop that fucking play.

any ideas?

...if the guy can't make it i'm the alternate so here's to poisoned water

Did you try double coverage, running the buzz zone with a safety over the top

I've seen that done a few times.

The ONLY way to stop it is to switch to the cornerback at the last possible second, make sure you make the cornerback stop, then jump straight up for the user pick.

It doesnt always work obviously and if u miss it's probably a TD, but it's the only way.

BigMike threw 2 of them to Percy Harvin in our online dynasty. 1st one he caught it cause I didnt try to stop it. 2nd one, I went for it and got that user pick.

i tried to switch and catch it with the DB, then i tried bringing the SS over there, but nothing worked. I was knocked out in the 1st half because of the 3 TD to 0 rule, but everything i tried didn't work. I didn't try the big hit, didn't even think about it actually, daw, but i'm f-ing pissed.

If i had won i would have received 2 tickets to the Rose Bowl and a chance to win $10,000 while i was there

Oh, I definitely agree with that.

Once or twice is fine. But using it as your go to play on every possession, I wouldn't be too happy seeing that.

You damn right this works haha...Gotta lay the wood into out there, if you see it coming like you did in the tourney, just give him ground w/ the safety and don't even go for the pick...Just try to destroy him as soon as he's in mid flight

They took it out of the on-line game with the second patch. Should have asked to play on-line. :D

i have to agree with dawgit on this one. although i havent seen this play done, i havent seen any reciever jump super duper high to get one, but i guess bigmike said it got taken out of the online play in the patch which would explain why i havent seen it.

I'm assuming we're talking about the strafe catch?

And if so the most effective thing I've seen is to lay the fucking lumber and big hit his ass. I do it to my buddy in off-line games and he just started planting me with the hit stick. Works pretty well for him.

Or option 2 ...... you scream "Vote for Pedro", knock the controller out of his hands, kick him in the balls, and run as fast as you can.

revisted, if you need a big play and this is your only ammo, that is weak and cheese. It doesn't matter on the big hit if you have a far more inferior team than your opponent. The better receivers will catch it 90% of the time. Moderation yes, but everytime you need a big 3rd down play and the WR jumps, it is crap and should be looked at. I am just saying..... :?

According to our fearless leader, this was taken out of online play.

I think there is a lot of confusion as to whats a "rocket catch" than the difference of "throwing high".

Ive heard recent bitching about people throwing high, including myself.

Since when is it "against the rules" or "considered cheesy" to use precision passing?? Grow the F up people and just play the damn game. You lose, you lose. Lets find stuff to "blame it on".

all I am saying is if someone high catches every time they need a big play, that is bs. Using it is fine but in moderation. If you have high rated WR's, you can't stop it even with a big hit. Like I said, using it is not cheese but if you use it everytime a big 3rd down comes with high rated WR's, it is questionable.

questionable how?

Should we have Victim stop using McCoy on 3rd and less than 3 because its 'questionable'?

Should we start telling the other team we are playing what is coming?

Should we also start using the "juke stick" in moderation? user picks in moderation?

Where does it end?

Precision passing isnt one of the things that need to be used in moderation IMO

I think there is a big difference from using a jump catch and throwing wide as "precision" passes. People use it more cause its harder and at times impossible to stop with stud wr's. I just think if you use it on every 3rd down it is questionable and not that someone uses it.

manual jump catches or precision high throws that the computer jumps for ?

Everyone is entitled to their opinion. I happen to disagree with you on this particular point.
