That is some sad stuff. I was looking at the pictures and thats just devastating destruction going on there.

I have some people in the office that cant reach their families over there. Sad stuff. :(

It really is.

That country is so poor and already in such turmoil they may never recover from it.

They said over a hundred thousand people just slept in the streets since they had nowhere to go and the bodies were rotting away next to them under sheets. Totally insane.

Not to mention how bad their health care system already is without the collapsing hospitals and the level of trauma patients they are going to have.

Allow me to the first to express my disappointment over the fact that even more foreign aid will now be pouring into that country; the middle-class is all but gone but we have plenty of money for Haiti! Worse, you'd be hard-pressed to find a nation that has received more aid in the past few decades and I don't think you can find any one country that has done less with the aid they receive; these are all off-my-head stats, I have not looked ... full disclosure.

You'll have to forgive my heartlessness because, for one, I am kinda heartless. However, there is a Haitian charity group around the Bronx that is always causing havoc. They are more a lobbyist group than a charity organization and they spend more time bickering with the Jews that I am surprised they can raise any money at all. As for Haiti itself, from what I've read and heard, that place is an amazing dump that has shown no signs of improving one bit and is nothing but a drain on the countries around it.

I would recommend to anyone that wants to help, not to send money, but to adopt a Haitian child. Let them see how a semi-sane, self-sustainable culture works. When they have grown up and understand the difference between common good and self-interest, allow them to go back to Haiti and use their experiences to lead the parasites down there into a better time.

I've changed my mind on a good deal of this post. I still think that nation is a fucking waste, but the people in there are not. I wish there was some way I could send some dude $50 - some citizen not a fucking organization.

this is a bad deal. I work with some Haitians and this has to be heavy on their hearts. My prayers and condolences go out to them and their friends and families. The Earth is an unforgiving place at times, a natural disaster can strike anytime without notice. We go through life taking simple things for granted and it's sad that it takes something like this to have people think. No one is guarenteed tomorrow and although I don't have much to speak for in my life, I am truly blessed that I am breathing and that my girls are happy and healthy. Something to think about....

glad you came off that stance trendon, cause while i agree with you on a lot of what you said when human devastation is involved money and borders and politics shouldn't matter

its just trying help another human make it thru a day without enormous suffering

the only positive i can possibly hope for is that the country had NOTHING to begin with, maybe now that they'll have to rebuild everything they'll have an opportunity to fix their infrastructure with the donations and start over

definitely a shitty shitty situation

You know Oprah is gonna jump all over this one and help these people out.

Tennessee is also sending them Lane Kiffin T-Shirts as well I read today in the LA Times.

Besides that it is just a horrible thing to happen anywhere anytime and you always feel for these people. How big was the Quake anyhow?

Yowsaz. I remember the Northridge quake out here that was in the 6 zone and it scared me half to death and wanted to leave Cali imediately and the epicenter was like 30 minutes away.

Earthquakes are so friggin scary when you have been in one and to think what little these people had is frightening. They are so unpredictable.

The scary part is, any rebuilding they do will simply be wiped out by a hurricane.

The worst thing about Haiti is their infrastructure. It is poor beyond words, and until they make a dedicated effort to improve it, things like this will happen every time they get hit by a natural disaster. I feel sorry for the people of that nation, but I also condemn their government for not doing their jobs. Like Trendon said, all this money going to them, and nothing ever improves--people still live in shoddy homes, the hospitals don't improve, etc. You can't just rebuild faulty buildings and expect them to last; it costs more to build up-to-standard structures, but they will be able to survive these hurricanes that hit every year.

Elvis Dumerville and Pierre Garcon are also doing a lot to help, Packsy, as they are of Haitian descent.

I appreciate the fact that the news machines are trying to give us a real look at some of the devastation...but is it me or was AC trying really hard to make a moment? Shit, the kid was 12 or 13 and probably weighed more that AC does. All 15 feet of the 2nd carry attempt was almost as humorous as the initial "Double underhook chicken wing carry" that AC was doing at first.

I was thinking the same thing.

He told the cameraman, "make sure you get this!"

Couldnt really see what was going on at the other end though. Still pretty nuts how gashed that kids face was.
