Overall record trumps head to head it seems

Post by fsupenguin »

This seems to be the case, multiple examples of this I have noticed in voting and bowls. I get it, but I kinda see it differently, am I alone in this way of thinking? Just wondering if I am being super weird, or if others this head to head wins should matter more than they seem to here, and in real life many times.

If schedule strength is virtually equa, then for me, overall record will always trump head to head.

The 10-2 team will always be ranked ahead of the 9-3 team even if the 9 winteam won head to head. Again, provided SOS is similar.

.......
and margin of vicotry. a 3 point game ill view as a toss up but a 25 point win may just put that 9-3 over if the SOS is similar.

Can't say always. I had 10 wins and was left out of a couple polls. However, they could have been accidental leave offs. Either way, I agree with what you are saying. Any 10 win team from a BCS conf is usally higer than a 9 win team. Some people may vote with the head-to-head way, but I would others vote thinking about record, and SOS, and somewhat head-to-head.

for me, head-to-head is not a clear cut deciding factor. SOS, SOV, record vs common opponents, conference strength, conference title, etc etc all come into factor.

One example... If a 9-3 team beat a 10-2 team, but that's his only quality win, but that 10-2 team had 3 quality wins and everything else was pretty equal, 10-2 team still in most cases will get a higher vote from me.

Maryland got me in the h2h and got a better bowl game than I did, even though I was #8 in the computer rankings.

Normally I'd agree, but I guess we're finding other cases

head to head is what I go by in voting... also why USC is going to destroy LSU in the championship. I was the only common opponent of USC and LSU this season. Lost to USC 34-0, lost to LSU 24-10. that equals a 20 point win for USC this season. Lock it up.
