I guess Ill come here for my answer....

Post by buckeye76 »

As you know, I have a 1 month at home. Since day 1 of getting her home she hasnt slept in her crib/basinet for more than 2hrs tops. Feeding normally, 2hrs at first now it seems to be about 4hrs in between. The last two weeks have been brutal, she seems to be awake at night alot. Normal feed is around 10pm-11pm. We lay her down she cries like shes the boss and the only way to get her to stop is to hold her. We ve found ourselves holding her at night just to get some rest. Its definitely taking its toll on me, im used to being up late at night with work but my wife shes just dragging ass. I feel bad, Madalynn almost seems like shes got some acid reflux or something. Everytime she cries really hard, I feel like im not doing something right and probably my wife the same and we pick her up and she stops. Tonight, as you can see its 345am, she slept from midnight to about 130, she wasnt due for her next feeding until 4am. Any ideas anyone has used to help get the switch or what not would be great. I told the wife the other day after the 8pm or so feeding we just have to take her up to her crib and let her sleep. Well, we both are softies so we hear the baby cry and we go to work. Anyhow, here i sit, baby in arms, 4am......

any ideas would be great. (is this normal for the first month or two?) I know i m not going to get sleep like i did but 2hrs of sleep last night at work and now up for most of the night now......I find im a grumpy Beefy until i get my coffee in the am....

Are you guys swaddling her up?

We had the same problem with our lil girl . Once we started swaddling her up she would sleep through the night. She's been sleeping 8-10 hours a night since she wad one month old.. It's awesome

I suggest you get use to it. It's kinda normal for the first few months. I've done it four times and it's almost been the same for each kid. It could be gas, if that's the case try the mylacon drops. Breast feeding worked out best for me, because I didn't have to get up much, lol. It's also better for the baby. You need to get a strict routine and stick to it. Kids know when you vary from it. It;s going to be hard to not pick her up at times, but you have to get them use to a routine. This will also help you know when you can get the little rest you can over the next few months:)

both the biggies were hit

make sure to try the gas drops to make sure thats not what it is. it cant hurt

and swaddling is HUGE and underrated for <6months

She's use to the nice comfy confines of mommys tummy and u would think she'd be more comfortable out in her big basinet but she'd prefer to be snug at this age

there's alot of good links on how to perfectly swaddle if you google em

lastly to end on a bit of a downer for you

she may just not like to sleep

my 1st kid was awesome at it. from day 1 she slept through the nights. my ex and i were young so we'd let her stay up til 10-11pm and she'd sleep til 9 at least every day.

this last one.......I joke all the time to family that "sleep to her is her greatest enemy and the bane of her existence"

kid just hated it..hated going to bed, hated naps, hated sleeping. she'd wake up in the middle of the night as tired as can be and try to get up just because she hated sleeping.

when we started her in pre-school at 2 1/2 it got a little better

now she's 5 and in kindergarten...we usually start settling down at 8, and she's out by 8:30...

but yeah, she didnt really start sleeping through the night CONSISTENTLY until she was 2-3 years old. Dr's said that was just "her clock" and it'll adjust when it does (and it did)

I pray yours doesnt have the same. was a suck ass 2 years for sleep

i meant to make this point. This may be the best thing the wife and I have done as parents. Our kids are still on a pretty strict schedule. they go to bed at a certain time on school nights with a wider range on the weekends.

Some people let their kids stay up till whenever. Thats their choice, but I have found kids seems to function better in a routine.

Not sure if you were talking about your wife or baby having the acid reflux, and also not sure if y'all are breast feeding or using formula. But if it is the baby that is suffering with acid reflux, you may want to consult your doctor on different feeding options.

And gas drops and swaddling are a must, as metioned above. Also when you lay her down after swaddling her, you may want to roll up some baby blankets and put all around her. It is working for us, and it worked with our other 3 ;)

GL man, our little girl will be 3 months the 22nd of this month....And we have had some late nights as well, but she seems to have settled into a routine.

our 1st week was brutal

zoie would basically scream and cry whenever she was awake

wife was breast feeding and it turned out that she wasnt producing enough milk

switched to formula, established a sleep routine and swaddled her up

there is also something called gripe water its all natural and worked when all else failed..

We(she) did it for both our kids a couple months each. I still dont necessarily think its "better" for them.
