Taking Care of Kids

Post by brwnbear »

Wife is leaving for a few days to attend her cousins wedding in Atlanta, which leaves me with the 14 month and 3 years old until Sunday.

Holy shit, I am totally unprepared to be a single dad! I know nothing about the day to day stuff to raise them. Wife gave me a 6 page (6 PAGES!) list of stuff I need. There is stuff I didnt even know existed. What to pack in a diper bag, where to drop off my son and what the password is when I pick him up, what medications each of them take, how to give them a bath. Thats right, ive never done that before.

I have to say, I know that there are a few singled dads here and I have to give you guys props because this looks like its going to be a long weekend.

You've never bathed your kids?? Wow

That's a daily thing since Cal came around.

The other stuff I agree with you on. I know most but there is so much unneccesary crap the females do its hilarious but if you are smart you don't say a word and let them be

Shel and I had this talk yesterday.

Yeah, I want to know how you've managed to never give a bath also. 8 of the last 11 nights I've had to give the twins (2 years old) and the youngest (13 months) their bath because she's been stuck taking care of things at her school.

So is this your excuse for not being able to play our cup game? :)

I've never personally done it. Wife takes care of it. I'd give them showers if it was up to me.

We can play tomorrow or Saturday. Just need to keep one eye on both of them.

I told my wife I was going to call my Mom (I am a sad man) to give them a bath. She lives 5 min away. Wife did not approve.

Pffff, your mom is 5 minutes away????

Time for a trip to see grandma for a couple days

Kids get bathed and properly taken care of, grandma sees her grand kids, you get a vacation weekend, wife is at ease knowing her kids won't develop scabies from not bathing.

Everyone wins

grandma spends the weekend at the house and does the dirty work that she wants to do anyways with a big smile on her face... you play a little gah gah gooo gooo for a few hours w/ the little fellas. then you slip grandma a bottle of wine and a spa gift certificate, tell her you love her and tell her she was never there and be on your way to 50 NDL City goals by the end of the week.

Yep, I bathe two 1 year olds just about every day, 7 days a week lol.

But as far as packing diaper bags and all of that, I'm pretty clueless as well. I can wing it and bring the bare essentials, but the wife brings everything you could ever possibly need.

That being said, just have her pack the bag and you should be good til Sunday.

This is what I was thinking...not as in depth, but a great plan! :D

My kids are deathly afraid of the shower. No idea why, they love baths. But sometimes they accidently push down the knob to switch it to shower and just completely freak out.

And I was just giving you a hard time. If your kids are anything like mine, we'll either play when they are sleeping or when your wife's back.

Bath time is like a party anymore. Mine will swim and play around, you have to force her out. As for the diaper bag, I pack a few toys, some snacks....and really thats about it. Shel, I think all the wives are the same, Im pretty simple, she likes to pack the whole room.

So apparently I am the only father in the world that hasnt given their kid a bath. So what do I do here, just fill it up, add bubbles and scrub them down? Anything special I need to do with kids and the baby? Obviously dont leave them and I'm guessing I will want to fill it up only 3-4 inches.

You just rinse off the shampoo with the water in the tub? Do I use shampoo? Dammit its not in my 6 page list.

get the bubble bath that is all in 1. Plop them in with a couple toys and let them play. Just take a pouf or wash cloth and rub them down. Biggest thing is don't leave them unattended.

Not a problem,

There is a Movie called "Mr. Mom" that will give you all the answers you need. Good luck
