Get Rid of Comp Picks
So around the league we are constantly talking about the quality and depth of the FA pool as well as injuries and teams lack of depth.
Why don't we consider turning off comp picks?
This will:
Make teams more active in the FA market
Create a lot more depth on squads due to the injuries and increased DTD variety
Provide a more well rounded MLB league of players that should be on teams
I am sure I am missing other items but feel free to chime in.
A vote for yes=turn off comp picks.....a vote for no=keep it as is
WE WOULD START THIS NEXT SEASON!!

Hell yes.
Re: Get Rid of Comp Picks
I am for it as it's very easy to manipulate that system but I think it needs to start next offseason so owners have a full season to prepare for it

Expand on that considering we are in the offseason now, can still offer guys QO, and guys are making decisions currently based on if they will get a comp pick or not heading into FA for their spending.wdoupis wrote:so owners have a full season to prepare for it

Re: Get Rid of Comp Picks
Keep it the way it is. If I offer a guy a qualifying offer and he doesn't accept then my team gets screwed over. Not every team has $30M to spend in FA every year (I do this year and plan on spending).

Re: Get Rid of Comp Picks
I voted against this.
I'd rather change the Injury settings to be realistic to force teams to add depth. It would arguably also force owners to sign more of these comp eligible picks to clean up this issue as well.

Re: Get Rid of Comp Picks
I don't think this is something worth voting on. It's not broke so why try to fix it?
Let's get rid of owners that aren't active instead. reduce the league by 2-4 teams if we have that many that aren't active

It being broken or not is in the opinion of which side you are on.GeorgesGoons wrote:I don't think this is something worth voting on. It's not broke so why try to fix it?
A lot of leagues decide not to utilize this function because it makes FA more active, thins out the talent sitting there, and creates a better MLB league with more talent on rosters instead of guys sticking in a 20/20 thats $480k versus a veteran, cheap guy that may perform better.
Just another option to explore to keep us active and creating a better league.
Re: Get Rid of Comp Picks
I will use myself as an example. I went to the offseason knowing I could offer Nelson Moran the QO and if he turned it down become comp eligible. I also knew it would deter many from signing him (and his defense) so I'd have a shot at resigning him for less than the high amount he was asking for in season. This is manipulating the system no doubt but it's a key component of team building that I know many guys have done a lot. Had I known there would be no comp I would have thought differently and negotiated in season differently.Cnasty wrote:Expand on that considering we are in the offseason now, can still offer guys QO, and guys are making decisions currently based on if they will get a comp pick or not heading into FA for their spending.wdoupis wrote:so owners have a full season to prepare for it

If we make such a key change it should be next season off season as the time to do anything differently for the guys now has already passed but you now know for next season

Re: Get Rid of Comp Picks
I would like this pass but how about a third option of comp guys getting a sandwich pick of signed but the signing team doesn't lose anything. Is that even possible?
Re: Get Rid of Comp Picks
Yes, use the current real world CBA

Re: Get Rid of Comp Picks
Out of curiosity, is is possible to set it to a 2nd round comp pick instead of a 1st round?

Meh, everyone will always have a reason why it should be "next" season and not this seasonwdoupis wrote:I will use myself as an example. Options are no comp picks or comp picks....AND CBA 2012 Rule changes (TURNED ON)which include:
Type A/B free agents eliminated
Only players spent with entire season are eligible for comp picks
First round forfeiture of picks unless top 10 rules
Former team gets pick in supplemental round
drafted players can only sign minor league contracts
the top 22% of players with 2 years of service will be eligible for arbitration (super 2)
