Media Revenue
Mentioned it earlier this season. Was looking and saw that New Jersey leads all teams with $50M while not having a winning season in 7 seasons. While Boston who has been one of the most dominant teams is sitting $8M behind.
We can figure out details later on how to implement these changes, just putting to a vote on whether we should change how Media Revenue is distributed.

Re: Media Revenue
I am against anything that creates more work for our commish. It seems that it is mostly in line but there are a few outliers. 8 million is not a lot in the grand scheme of things.
If we do change it however, flat amount for everyone. Not more work for billy.

Re: Media Revenue
Agree that $8m isn't that big if a deal but getting $13m more than what you should as a perennial loser is too much.Uuaww wrote:I am against anything that creates more work for our commish. I am down for everyone getting the same amount as this game makes zero sense on how they divide media revenue. Teams like Boston, Washington, Richmond should be in the top tier due to their continuous winning.

Re: Media Revenue
Is it related to market size?
Re: Media Revenue
That was my first thought but not sure. New Jersey is average market size though. We had so many teams move and get new owners in a short stretch and then with the financial stuff that happened it may have created some outliers. For me we still have the teams in debt we need to reel in and the fact there is so much cash in our league not being spent by some that is likely creating some of the financial issues.dakshdar wrote:Is it related to market size?
This is very low on the priority list for me at the moment

Re: Media Revenue
I was just going to post, before anyone changes anything, you have to first understand how media revenue is calculated.
Do any of you?
George, you are saying that Boston should be top because of their winning streak, but should they? How is it calculated and what is it based on?
Here are some things I found on the OOTP forums regarding it:
Note that actual locations are mostly aesthetic and don't actually correlate to your market size.
The market size is a number on your teams financial settings. In your league you may or may not have set this up in accordance to the actual sizes of real life markets.
If youre market size is say 3 and everyone else is 7 or 8 its possible that you could be winning and your media revenue is declining or staying still.
I believe your team media contract is also dictated by your fan interest which is somewhat driven by the popularity of players.
If you have to keep trading away popular players this may also lower media revenue.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
local media revenue will not rise beyond a specific point for any market size.
A market size can have a small range of local media contracts.. typically, if you are doing well it will be at the top of that scale. if you are doing well but fan interest is dropping... well you may not see what you expect with next year's media revenue...
market sizes can change... That would be a reason why the range of income would shift one way or another in a greater amount.
outside of that, how you do will not effect the media revenue in a season... you know how much you will make immediately at the beginning of that year. it's just a contract signed day one and for however many years.
how much media revenus shifts is larger for a larger medi revenue... so if you are a small market it shouldn't have more than a 5-10M range per smaller market size (<5-6). otherwise a market size has occured.
Again, you can test all of this in a side league with the same settings... make sure contract lenghts are 1 year. each time you set interest/loyalty/market size and w/e else is related, then go to Front OFfice -> Accounting and you can see the future media contract's value.

Re: Media Revenue
Here is what I found right in the OOTP manual:
Media revenue
Media revenue is partially driven by team market size, fan loyalty, and fan interest.
These can be set during game creation in the Financial Rules section of the Rules page.
After game creation, this can be done by navigating to OOTP Menu >> Game Setup >> League Setup >> Rules tab >> Financial Rules section. However, the biggest influence on media revenue are the Average Media Contract and Media Contract Fixed? settings.

I bet Reign understands this the best. He would be a good one to chime in on this topic.

Re: Media Revenue
since when is market size relative to wins?
Re: Media Revenue
It just has to do with long term consistent success. Bama and Washington are the largest because they have the longest sustained winning. Reigns Cincy is the largest we ever had. Boston went up a level a season or two ago. It takes a long time for market size to change and it’s always been about success.

We also we're just awarded with EXTREME loyalty.

Just looking at one team, who has the highest media revenue and he has had 2 winning seasons since 2031. So obviously long term consistency has ZERO to do with it. I can look at all the teams and break it down on 10 or 20 year averages to see if winning has anything to do with media revenue, which it should.
Nobody wants to watch the White Sox and Royals battle it out for last place in the AL Central. But we will get some Houston games due to them winning.

Re: Media Revenue
My response was to Nicks market size question, not media revenue.
Re: Media Revenue
New Jersey is at 39.5M (bottom 5ish) for media revenue this coming season...
Re: Media Revenue
Exactly, I think it was just an outlier thing that kind of fixes itself
