Realignment Poll

Post by wdoupis »

It has been 11 seasons under the current format so it is time to see how guys feel about realignment. I would like to get it sorted out so I can do it as part of the rollover Saturday. This poll is only a yes or no for realignment, we will then vote on structure but it will be one of these 2:

Option 1: Same format with 6 divisions. I will choose 6 of the most successful teams from the last decade and place them in a division. Then randomly draw the rest of the teams from a hat and come up with a draft order and everyone can choose their division

Option 2: 2 divisions per league. Division winners get a bye and the next 4 best records are seeded 3-6. I actually love this idea as it would be more balanced schedule wise and I think playoff seeding would be improved as well.

Personally I think after 11 seasons and a couple real life years realignment is something fun and exciting to do and I am in favor but let’s see what the league thinks.

For this poll majority wins. Reach out to your friends who don’t frequent forums as often and make sure they vote. I’d like to get everyone’s opinion on something like this.

It won't. You can still have a 114 win #3 seed and a #2 bye team with 100 wins.

You want to improve playoff seeding. 1 division per league. Top 2 gets a bye

If those are the only two options then I vote no because the reasoning doesn't fix anything in your option 2.

But it does, nothing is perfect. In option 2 Sheltown would at least be the 3 seed instead of 4. It also will help in scheduling as everyone will play other teams closer to the same amount of times than they do now.

Situations like this season rarely come up where Sheltown and Washington win that many games and don’t win a division. To base what we should do on something so uncommon is not really the way to go in my opinion

7 teams since 2054 this could have been the case with 2 divisions. Not exactly rarely.

So another league I am in, he has the divisions setup as say ours is today, but then, every year, teams can move up or down based on their 5 year win average.
This helps to balance out the competition so that the top teams compete more against each other each season.

There are 3 divisions in the AL and 3 in the NL.
There are 5 teams in each division.
Personally, I hated this idea when I first joined and now, I like it because it basically does the realignment for us, every season.

So like this year, we are in the offseason and I will be moving up into the top division with my Indians and the White Sox will be moving down.

So it is something to take into account and I think it would fix our issues here with realignment and such.

If this shows up for you guys, this is what the commish does and shares it every offseason.
This shows a 3 year average, he just mentioned we may start to go to 5 and he recommends 5 for a better average.

Why? Explain to me why it is a bad thing when I am in a league that uses it and it works great.

I don't like that a 70 win team will make the playoffs over a team with 85 wins just because they won their division

Fair point George, but I thought we were realigning because some teams are too strong?
This keeps it more balanced year to year.

So corey doing his player draft for the betterment of the NDL was not pity baseball?
We are not looking to realign due to pity baseball? Teams get strong and then realignment talk happens.

So don't do the realignment like I posted every year. Make it every 7 or 10 seasons, realign based on winning averages and then it is what it is. No one has a say or a pick where they end up, they get placed based on something set.
