New Coach, New Expectations

Article By: NCAA Dynasty League

Coming off a 9-3 season with the Fresno State Bulldogs, Coach sammy33 was look for a challenge. A few schools showed interest, but opted to go with different coaches as the draft took part. It ultimately came down to two schools: Michigan or Kentucky. Kentucky since it was the coach's second favorite team and one that he knows very well. At best, they could be an annoyance for the rest of the SEC as they strive to be a tough out. Michigan due to the history and the challenge of bringing them back to the level of consistent success other coaches were able to achieve with them. We know how the story went and the coach was excited to be part of this storied program.

I am very grateful for the chance to coach such a historic program. So many greats have walked through these doors, players and coaches. I'm hoping that my time here can produce a team the fans can be proud of. This team has one thing that really makes me smile: speed. With the group of players we have, it leaves the door open to a lot of creativity.

Plans for the offense:

To be honest, I'm not really sure. Last season we had to morph our identity due to the lack of an o-line. I'm hoping that won't be an issue here. Than there is the question as to what to do at quarterback. The same could be said for the tailback. We have guys that offer different skill sets that give the coaching staff the ability to create different scenarios. We are still working on that, but I think that there is room for everyone to have their part in how we plan to attack.

On what is going on with your defense over the last 4-5 seasons:

If I had an answer, we would be better. We went from being a staff that could put together a top 30 defense to being picked apart. We are going to try a few things. Variations of the Tampa 2 have been what I've hung my hat on. Problem is that we have yet to stop the run or pass with it lately. This team is built like the Bucs with the speed in the back 7. We are going to see what we can do about generating some pressure. That has been the issue as we haven't been able to frustrate the pocket much.

On the schedule:

Going all out to start. On the road against Florida State and Notre Dame will give us a chance to see where we are at as a team. The time off in between will let other things get situated as we turn back to focus on the season. OOC will have a glaring lack as this will be the first time in forever that Coach bearass will not be on it. We will be looking at Troy (Dad) and Kansas State (best bud) as the other teams. In conference will definitely be a challenge. There is a diverse set of coaching philosophies to go around here. We will get to play the powerhouses in Ohio State and Wisky along with other teams that will definitely provide a coaching challenge. We shall see how we fare.
