Well here we go with another season of the NDL. What started in 2004 when JeffMo and Chalin had their first date has grown into a love/hate affair. In the past 7 years and 20 seasons, both before mentioned "lovers" have since departed from their love child but the child has blossomed into something more. What started as a place where true football enthuasists can live out their dreams of either playing college ball or coaching college ball has grown to an online community that guys can come in to chat, talk smack and even an occasional flirting. We may snap at each other from time to time but all in all, we are in this together and like distant cousins, we can talk smack to one another but if an outsider should opens their mouth, its on like Donkey Kong...Wii version. I already reached my limit in sentences so I begin with the Top 20 games of week 1 and where NDL Gameday will be headed.....I can tell you the Top 5 places I looked at are Stillwater, Cincinnati, Happy Valley, Lansing and Tallahassee.
#20. California(Quack) at Iowa St(ICE)
Both coaches are veterans of the NDL. They both come in at new schools with alot of unanswered questions. ICE is looking to redeem himself after a horrific season at Michigan. His defense looks better but still has offensive issues.
#19. TCU(Lytez) at Kansas St(Rocca)
TCU has taken a step back after finally Mtwasik was let go. Kansas St is coming off a BIG 12 North title. Lytezout will look to bring the Horned Frogs back to the Top 10 while Coach Rocca has big shoes and a big head to fill in Manhattan.
#18. #8 Virginia Tech(vtrun) at SMU(Hart)
Would have been higher if Nick...I mean Brett was still coaching the Mustangs. Coach Hart will look to continue the rise of the Mustangs and their high powered offense. SMU can pull an upset but will have to play lights out against Tyrod Taylor and that rushing attack.
#17. North Carolina(LGF) at #17 Texas(VVV)
As far as ratings, its as even as can get. Can Coach Feisty finally get a marquee win. Coach VVV returns home and is determined not to be one and done...AGAIN.
#16. Memphis(Oracle) at Syracuse(Untouchable)
Just will be interesting to see if Oracle can do for Bass what JD did for him.
#15. Akron(AJ) at South Florida(CNasty)
A NDL:Florida matchup where Coach AJ feels more comfortable with the Zips as he did with the Gators. All we can hope for is that USF has some nice looking cheerleaders as the Panthers of FIU did last season.
#14. Georgia Tech(vicktim) at Washington St(Coug)
Coach Coug finally gets his team so the pressure is on. As far as Coach vicktim, no pressure to win with BumbleBees being a Dawg fan.
#13. UCF(BlockM) at #10 Arkansas(Steam)
If UCF wants some creditablility, it starts in Fayetteville. A win here can really put the Knights on the map.
#12. North Carolina St(Holmey) at Connecticut(driccio)
Always a close matchup between the Comp Geek and the Money Geek. Its a Geekfest in Stoors.
#11. #22 Houston(RanDawg) at Arizona St(beercop)
Can this finally be the season Houston goes undefeated and make a BCS Bowl? Coach beercop will have some say into that!
And now the Top 10 games of Week 1.......
#10. Dealer at wj
In a short period of time, Coach Dealer has proved to be a solid player in the NDL. However, can he take an average team and make them better in Purdue? Coach WJ is a mainstay in the NDL and has been consistant. He is a solid coach and will make the Irish very tough especially with Touchdown Jesus watching.
The winner:
#9. #16 wsdp at #9 BIGmike
The problem with this being the Game of the Week is not the teams but the coaches. BIGmike is one of the best EVER in the NDL while wsdp is fairly new. I just don't think the Aggies will stop John Cassius Clay. Sadly this won't be pretty for wsdp. Just take your butt whooping like a man and go 11-1!
The winner:
#8. #7 Buckeye at TheRealDray
Hopefully this season, Coach Bucky can stay on schedule and keep rising in the polls. Going to Athens will not be easy as Coach Dray as slowly gotten these Dawgs to play tough. He has them on the verge of breaking through and possibly winning the SEC East this season.
The winner:
#7. Quest at Champ
Last two seasons, these coaches played to the final seconds. This season, Coach Quest has a better team. Both teams might be focusing on the RB's Rodgers and Lattimore so it maybe up to the QB's to win this game.
#6. Doctfan
Coach Doc is a mainstay in Pittsburgh. He has the Panthers always competiting for the Big East title. Coach tfan travels the nation...literally. He leaves Nashville for Lubbock. He knows how to run an offense and will shine in the Fun Gun.
The winner:
#5. #18 Reign at #25 justgiver
Coach justgiver will have you think WTF when scheduling Oregon but it was only fitting to let Coach Reign return home for a game. This maybe Coach Reign's season to breakthrough the "ever so close" and contend for the title. Will it be Masoli or Thomas or even Costa?
The winner:
#4. Sammy at #13 Pengy
Michigan flat out sucked last season but with a new coach, Meeechigan looks to surprise. Can they start with an upset of Florida St and Coach Pengy. Pengy gets his team and is looking to take them where Nole couldn't, a BCS NDL title.
The winner:
#3. #20 bigred at #23 Nole
This will be a barn burner as these two top coaches battle it out with their new teams. Defense may play apart in their seasons but not in this game as look for a shootout. Too close to call so a coin flip....
The winner:
#2. #19 mcx at #12 UCWeiser
Coach mcx is a Gator and he gets to be a Gator, while UC is a Bearcat and has been a Bearcat for what seems like forever. This is a great week 1 matchup between the two teams looking to be in a BCS bowl game.
The winner:
NDL Gameday heads to....
#6 JohnnyP at #14 Weasel
It is time once again for the battle of brothers and this time little brother has more firepower with tha U! After taking BYU as far as they can go, Coach JohnnyP turns in his Mormon card for South Beach. BYU calls him "LeBron" for leaving but this was little brothers chance to get out of big brother's shadow.
This isn't a bad a fued as Biffy and Crowes but it is intense and this maybe the one game that knocks them out of NDL title contention or at least takes a big hit. Both teams have great offenses so it maybe up to the defenses to make that one stop for the victory. Last season, Big Weasel won but this isn't BYU!
