The SEC West is playing out like a lot of people expected and this week all bets are off when #2 Alabama hits the road to take on the #1 team in the land, the LSU Tigers. On paper these teams are so close to one another it could go either way. Looking at points per game, it almost looks set up with only 2 tenths of a point serparating them from one another. While total offense isn't quite that close, only about 4 yards per game seperate them in that category. Expect nothing in this game, anything can happen.
THINGS TO LOOK FOR:
Alabama: On the legs of Mark Ingram and Trent Richardson Alabama leads the SEC in rushing at 186 yards per game, ranking 4th in the Nation. They have also scored 14 TDS on the ground and Richardson added one recieving. Greg Mcelroy has completed around 67 percent of his passes, but the stat that jumps out to me is the 4 INTS to 6 TDS. On defense Alabama has been getting after the QB accumulating 19 sacks in just 6 games, led by Marcel Dareus with 6.
LSU: Jordan Jefferson leads the way for the Tigers throwing for almost 1500 yards and 15 TDS. Terrence Toliver and Russell Shepard lead the LSU recievers in receptions and yardage, combining for right at 1000 yards on the season and 13 TDS. Lavar Edwards is the man on the defensive line accumulating 19 tackles and 6 sacks.
PREDICTION:
This is a game that is going to play out either two ways. Alabama will be able to run the ball or they want. LSU will be able to throw the ball or they want. For Alabama Mcelroy has to protect the ball when they get into those 3rd downs and not give LSU any short fields. For LSU Jefferson needs to be careful every play because Alabama is going to get pressure and the Tigers can't afford to give Alabama any extra chances, especially with their ground attack running the clock. Overall I think it will be a great game, but I'll say the home team wins and holds onto the #1 spot. 27-21 LSU
Note: Alabama beat Tennessee and LSU defeated Mississippi State, after the article was written to improve both teams to 7-0. Stats are prior to these games being played.
