USF GEARING UP FOR BIG EAST

Article By: NCAA Dynasty League

TAMPA - USF's revved-up offense ran over opponents the past 2 games. Now it's time to see if the Bulls have enough to bust through a Big East road block. USF kicks off its conference schedule at Pittsburgh, which is coached by the quality of The Niddler.

"You can see them getting better and better each and every week," USF head coach SwellVermin said. The Bulls' offense has been improving with each game as well. USF has scored 20 points or more in two straight games and has racked up more than 238 total yards in three consecutive contests. "We were able to move the ball up and down the field and put the ball in the end zone," quarterback B.J. Daniels said. "That is the most important thing."

USF knows the upcoming game at Pitt probably won't be an easy stroll up and down the field, which will have a very loud crowd behind it during the nationally televised game. "We're getting ready to play a very good rush defense that has a lot of confidence," Swelly said. "We're going to have our hands full." The game could possibly end up resembling the Bulls' last nationally televised game - the double OT win vs SMU.

Pitt will be the toughest defense USF has faced since the Mustangs, and one thing about the opponents is very similar. "Their front four is very, very similar to SMU," Swelly said. "I'm really impressed with what they're doing up front," SwellVermin added.

USF's rushing attack has improved by leaps and bounds since Week 1 with the emergence of Bradley Battles. The HB has averaged 100 rushing yards in the past three games and has become very comfortable toting the ball. Defenses can't forget about USF back Demetris Murray and Daniels, who rush the ball completely out of their minds.

Notes:

SwellVermin on QB B.J. Daniels

"Everybody asked what the difference from year one to two was and I keep talking about poise, confidence, where he is in the offense right now, the way he's seeing the field, the way he's managing the game, the way he's protected the ball, not putting it in danger," SwellVermin said. "I think B.J. has done an outstanding job in the first 3 games of the year."

The bottom line is the Bulls' ability to protect the ball could very well be the deciding factor on a win or a loss at Pittsburgh.

"At the end of the day it's about executing," Swelly said. "Don't beat yourself."
