While he didn't have a particularly good stint at Southern Miss in previous years, the fans are excited about the prospects of a good year with Coach C bringing in a balanced offense that has the potential for big plays and keeping defenses on the field. He took a UMASS team to 6-6 despite some poor play by his skilled positioned players on offense last year but the defense played surprisingly well under the tutelage of Shift. With a balanced attack on both sides of the ball, he said he was looking forward to using all the talent he has on this team and keep teams from keying in on weaknesses. They're going to have to do it against some tough opponents as the schedule is going to be tricky. The Golden Eagles will face some great conference opponents, but the big toughest tasks will be games with West Virginia, Notre Dame, San Diego State, and Louisiana Tech. That's a tough schedule and it'll start out with two big ones this weekend with LaTech and the Mountaineers. Fans can be delighted that Coach C is calling on his players to be disciplined and tough this season, he said he'll be "Looking forward to playing some hard nosed football"
