The Troy Trojans are set to open Sun Belt Conference play this week with home games against Texas State and Louisiana Monroe after opening the season 1-3 in Out of Conference play. Things do not get easier as the Trojans will follow these two games up with a trip to Kyle Field and the Texas A&M Aggies but Coach AUChase is focused on the immediate schedule for now.
Following last night's Beefy Cup Showdown and loss to Colorado, Coach AUChase told us "We really got exposed tonight. Colorado was able to run the ball at will against us and out leveraged us a lot on the perimeter. I do not feel like they revealed very much of their playbook because they didn't have to. I think we had less than 50 total offensive yards in the first half. Dropped balls, missed blocking assignments, and poor execution really put us behind the 8 ball. Defensively, If we can't generate a better pass rush or fill gaps better and get down hill against the run we are going to be in trouble in this conference. We can study all the film available and it doesn't matter if we do not show up and put the work in physically."
Here is an outlook at the upcoming game aginst ULM:
Troy has found a way to increase offensive production in season games but the defense being a massive liability has most Trojans fans concerned about the likelihood of winning the game. On the other hand ULM's defense has been stout, allowing only 55 total points through 3 games, and only averaging 11.5 against in the past two. The Trojans are aware of the challenge facing them ahead and will have to prepare accordingly or the season may already be in peril.
