HOUSTON, TX - With the H-town faithful looking on from afar and inside a packed TDECU stadium as well for this national TV broadcast the Houston Cougars got off to their normal subpar start but eventually the run & shoot got going and the defense even joined in on the party.
"What about that D!!!!" (referring to the late 4th quarter goal line stand), coach Rags proclaimed.
"What about Mehki (Mews, after a 95 yard kickoff return) and how about Donovan Smith (who ended up with 429yds passing)!!!
Big BIG win for our program over a Top 10 Baylor squad. We made more personal changes during the week and it paid off for us against the Bears. They came out and steamrolled us early, we kept our composure and responded well, fought back and pulled out a tough win. Props to them, their staff keeping us off guard all game be it via the run, pass, PA, screens. For a minute, it was a little like looking in the mirror. A LITTLE, they run better than we can dream but we're working on it.
Our record doesn't show it, but we really are a dang good bunch and I'm looking forward to seeing this thing thru fruition. We knew coming in this year, we might be rough around the edges, 62 new players, lost alot in the portal yet gained a great group that WANT'S to be HERE and here we are. Big win tonight!
