The Texas Tech Red Raiders have finalized a one-year deal with new Head Coach AUChase for the upcoming NDL Season 30. This deal is contingent on performance as the win expectancy for the Red Raiders has shifted to 9 games. Getting to 9 wins would mean historic achievement for the Red Raiders. In 29 seasons of the NDL, Texas Tech has only won 9 games or more three times. For those of you doing the math at home, that’s roughly 11%. Two of those were under now Texas Head Coach Steamrollr22 including a 13-0 (9-0) season in NDL Season 15 but unfortunately finished below an undefeated Georgia and USC.
Coach AUChase is hoping to learn from some of his mistakes at Troy. The Trojans lost several one possession games in conference play but were fortunate to receive a bid to the Las Vegas Bowl where they were victorious. Coach is hoping to roll that momentum with the same coaching staff into a new conference and new team to be competitive on the field.
When asked what his thoughts were on the upcoming season he said, “First of all, thank you for allowing me to be here today. I will miss my booth at the Highway 231 Waffle House but I’m already in talks with Lubbock’s Breakfast House & Grill to secure myself a booth every week. I feel good about our team and the vibes in the locker room. There are a lot of new faces, and we are still learning about each other, but we open this week with some Beefy Cup games and hopefully can figure some things out before the regular season. This is a tough conference. We knew coming in that it already had last season’s NDL Champion Kansas but also it’s gaining a lot of good coaches making the leap from the Group of 5 level. It’s going to be a challenge but fun, nevertheless. One of my first tenets as a coach is to make sure that our players are not influenced by outside noise such as the NDL Podcast or (in the words of Mike Leech) their fat little girlfriends. If we can control the message and believe in the process I feel like we can have a successful season. How success is defined varies but for me it starts with getting bowl eligible.”
The Red Raiders finalized out of conference matchups with Fresno State (rematch from last years Troy vs UAB game), Wake Forest, and Nebraska who made a lot of noise in the Big Ten and the NDL Playoffs.
