San Jose State and Coach Vic had an impressive debut going 2-0 with blowouts wins on the road against Bowling Green 45-14 and at home vs. Mountain West opponent Air Force 35-0.
Wyoming Cowboys
Wyoming Cowboys coach xLiQx took out his anger for not being able to draft the Washington State Cougars on his Block 1 opponents’ offensive by forcing 12 interceptions. The Cowboys went on the road to beat Big10 school Minnesota 51-20 and CUSA foe Louisiana Tech 38-13.
New Mexico Lobos
Lobo coach sammy33 was dominant in his only played game of the block, beating MAC foe Akron, in Ohio, 34-7. Week 2 game on the road against Jacksonville State is still yet to be played.
San Diego State Aztecs
San Diego State and coach/alum BigZZ916 beat the visiting Stanford Cardinal 52-37 in a high scoring affair. Week 2 game on the road against Oregon State is still yet to be played.
Colorado State Rams
Coach Korben_Dallas7 and the Colorado State Rams opened the season with a big win on the road in Tuscon vs the Big XII’s Arizona Wildcats, 45-37 before running into the buzzsaw defending National Champion Kansas Jayhawks. Colorado State was dominated 49-14
Fresno State Bulldogs
Fresno State and longtime NDL vet JustGiver31 were able to book a win in their opening game against New Mexico State 37-25. They followed up the victory with a loss at home to TCU, 45-21.
UNLV Rebels
UNLV coach BlackRain was on an approved hiatus this week and will look to hit the ground runnin’ on the road at Western Kentucky and South Alabama.
Utah State Aggies
Similar to the UNLV coach, Aggies coach Wave214 was also on hiatus and will look to book a win in his opening game at in-state rival BYU and then at home vs. the visiting Troy Trojans.
Hawai'i Rainbow Warriors
NDL legend jeffdaddy12 had a heartbreaking loss in his week 1 opener at home vs Northern Illinois. Chee Pono lost on a last second 70+ yard TD as time expired.
Nevada Wolf Pack
The Wolfpack and their coach UncleLbo34 lost his opener at home to run heavy Florida International 31-6.
Boise State Broncos
Boise State and their coach iRoccafella plated two tough Power Conference opponents and ultimately came up on the losing end of both of them. The Broncos lost to #9 Michigan on the Smurf Turf 28-21 and lost on the road at Boone Pickens Stadium to Oklahoma State 35-14.
Air Force Falcons
Air Force and NDL Vet ICE lost at San Jose State 35-0 and have yet to play their Week 1 opponent Clemson.
Players of the Block:
Offensive Player of the Block
Although he had serious competition from Wyoming RB Harrison Waylee, and Colorado State WR Tory Horton, Fresno State RB Malik Sherrod takes home the Offensive Player of Block 1 Award by amassing 504 yards and 6 TDs on just 37 carries.
Defensive Player of the Block
Although San Jose State State LB Jordan Cobbs was outstanding with 21 Tackles, 3 TFL, 3 INTs, and 1 FF, the Defensive Player of Block 1 Award goes to the entire Wyoming Cowboys Defense for causing 12 interceptions in 2 games, 6 against Minnesota and 6 against Louisiana Tech.
Special Teams Player of the Block
A light week for special teams performances in the Mountain West. The Special Teams Player of Block 1 Award goes to Wyoming K John Hoyland who hit 4 of 5 FGs with a long of 48 and was 11 for 11 on PATs.
