WEEK 3 SEC MEDIA PICKS & 1-2 RECAP

Article By: xLiQx

We here at the SEC Media don’t like to toot our horns but we are perfect on predictions this season – I know…amazing! #fakenews. With our bravado out of the way here are the week 3 picks…as always “If you don’t like them – prove us wrong.”

Notable Notes (week 1 and 2):
11 SEC teams ranked in the preseason top 25.
SC nabs upset over #17 UK in the only conference match-up (predicted by the SEC Network).
Razorbacks roar to a 2-0 start. It may be time to start thinking about getting them into your top 25 (scoring 42 ppg).
#2 Bama holds on for dear life against the Canes rallying from a 21-10 deficit to win 31-28.

SEC MEDIA POWER RANKINGS:
Texas
Florida
Alabama
UGA
Arkansas

PLAYER OF THE WEEK (week 1): Ole Miss WR Tre Harris. Harris caught 12 passes for 134 yards and two touchdowns - his 11.2 yards per reception and had 32 yards after his catches.

PLAYER OF THE WEEK (week 2): SC QB LaNoriss Sellers. Sellers completed 19/23 passes for 336 yards with four TD’s and a lone pick. Sellars also had three carries for 11 yards and a fumble. He led SC to a win over #17 Kentucky 35-21.

OU – BYE
TEX – BYE

AKRON @ TENN – This is one where the walk-ons love as they’ll see a lot of playing time. There isn’t much to say here as the Vols will sleepwalk their way to an easy win…Tenn 35-0.

UNC @ BAMA – The Tarheels have a fetish for the SEC - I’d say seek therapy. When your first four games are UGA, Sam Houston State, Bama, and Notre Dame you automatically have the toughest schedule in the NDL – I’d call it crazy town. Having a big set of jewels doesn’t get you wins, and Bama will own the second half…Bama 41-13

ARK @ CAL – The Razorbacks looked like stone-cold killers in weeks one and two. They beat UVA and WKU by a combined 84-31 score. QB Taylen Green will lead the charge over the Bears this week and continue on with his solid game play…Ark 34-17

AUBURN @ UTSA – This is one of those games where the Tigers are bigger, stronger, and faster (plastered all over HS weight rooms in the late 80’s). While the Tigers have struggled out to 0-2 from the starting block this game against the Roadrunners will right the sinking ship…AU 31-10

UK @ UGA – The #17 Wildcats got upset during week two to SC. I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but the Dawgs are not the team you end up righting your ship with. Dawgs D will get a lot of pressure on the Cats QB forcing a mess of UK turnovers. Think of your best dogs are better than cat jokes and insert in your own brain-housing group…UGA 38-10

SC @ LSU – Here’s my upset darlings from week 2. Gracias! However, you're not going to like this one - buckle up. I’d like to say a tight game but I may have irked the Tigers with that #5 pre-season pick. A caged Tiger isn’t a good thing and I feel I may have unleashed a monster (sorry SEC)…Tigers 38-20

MSU @ BAYLOR – I caught a bit of the Bears game, and O is humming putting up over 45 ppg during the first two weeks. I don’t see the Bulldog D bowing up and slowing that onslaught down – look for the Bears to roll here…Bears 48-13

NCSU @ MIZZOU – This is a solid match-up here as I like both teams. Mizzou may be flying under my radar here. My next-gen calculation has the Tigers running away from the Pack…Mizzou 41-21

VANDY @ EMU – We like Vandy front-loading their schedule to try to catch some wins. I hate the EMU gray field and while it may take Vandy a quarter to get use to visually they’ll come out with a win…Vandy 27-21

UPSET OF THE WEEK:
UF @ TAMU – Certainly could have been up for GOTW honors with these two teams/coaches. I had A&M ahead of UF in the pre-season, but the Gators got the Cane win and I believe their D will make the Aggies pay with some uncharacteristic TAMU turnovers. That Gator D is coming after you! The Aggies have been quiet just doing enough to win and they’ll need to do more than that this week to get the W – I don’t think they will…UF 31-24

GAME OF THE WEEK:
OLE MISS @ MICHIGAN – There is some conflict between playing in the Big 10 and writing for the SEC. We don’t see that as an issue here at SEC Media as these two solid teams will decide what’s happening on the field of play.

Ole Miss wasn’t thrilled with their pre-season prediction and this one will be the kindling that stokes the fire of proving us wrong. It won’t be an easy task as Michigan was tabbed as the pre-season favorite to win the Big 10. The UM offensive and defensive lines are some of the best in the country and will take advantage of what I consider two of the Rebels’ weak areas. While Ole Miss has some talent I don’t believe they match up well to this Wolverine team. Ole Miss did hit the Badgers for 107 rushing yards but it did take two OT’s and the Wolverine D is a step up from the Wisco front line. Two talented teams and two good coaches – lez go!

3 KEYS FOR OLE MISS:
Speed up the game.
Limit mistakes/turnovers.
Protect Dart and give him time.

3 KEYS FOR MICHIGAN
Don’t give up the big plays on D.
Establish the run game.
Slow the Rebel ground game – make them one-dimensional.

PREDICTION:
MICHIGAN 31
OLE MISS 30 (fuel to the fire penguin!!!!)
