As we reach the midseason mark of the season , the Big XII conference is beginning to take shape, with teams starting to carve out their places in the pecking order. Some squads have established themselves as serious contenders, while others are still fighting for positioning as the race to the championship heats up. But with plenty of games still to be played, it's clear that nothing is set in stone just yet. The second half of the season will be crucial for teams to solidify their standing, and the Block 5 Power Rankings reflect the shifting landscape of this competitive conference. Let’s dive in and see where each team stands as we look ahead to the rest of the season!
(-)16. Iowa State Cyclones 0-1 (0-0)
It's been a while since we've heard from the coach of Iowa State. Are we in line for a replacement?
(-1)15. Arizona State Sun Devils 0-3 (0-2)
Since the last release the Sun Devils have dropped another game. There's still 3 unplayed games so it's possible we could find they're better than this but as of right now it's not looking very positive for fans.
(-1)14. Texas Tech Red Raiders 1-5 (1-2)
Drops one spot in the rankings despite not playing a game. Gotta play to get moved up.
(-3)13. Oklahoma State Cowboys 1-5 (1-3)
Moved up after the win over the Mountaineers but followed that up with a loss to winless BYU this week.
(+3)12. BYU Cougars 1-5 (1-2)
Things were looking abysmal but, just like last season, here's that first W. Can they keep the momentum up?
(-2)11. Houston Cougars 2-4 (0-3)
Suffered a big loss at Kansas to remain winless in the Big XII. It's been a minute since their last W.
(+2)10. West Virginia Mountaineers 2-4 (0-3)
Almost eked out the win against #21 K State. Sooo so close. Jumps Houston based on closeness of the K State game plus they've won a game in recent memory.
(-1)9. Arizona Wildcats 2-3 (1-1)
See Texas Tech. Gotta play to make positive movement...or even hold steady.
(+1)8. Baylor Bears 1-1 (1-1)
Truly an anomaly here to gain a position. Took the L from Colorado, it's expected. Still looking at five unplayed games though. Time to get some games in so we can see where you truly belong.
(-)7. TCU Horned Frogs 4-2 (1-2)
Solid win over Houston...but.... Anyway, still waiting on the Utah game. Then we'll see what we have here. Holds steady for now with the W but let's see what you got.
(-)6. Kansas Jayhawks 3-2 (3-0)
Sitting 3-0 in conference looks nice. With the exception of one, the opponents are currently ranked toward the bottom of this list though. Good matchup this week vs in-state rival K State though. That'll help the resume if things go right for them.
(-)5. Kansas State Wildcats 5-2 (3-1)
Back to back losses but against very good talent. The ND game was close, Colorado showed their dominance. Won't drop them down just yet but we need a signature win very soon. Could this week be it?
(-)4. Cincinnati Bearcats 5-2 (3-1)
Took the L to Central Florida but was also down two star players. Would it have made a difference? Let's pretend yes. Followed that up with a W, still down two players. This next game is a doozy for them.
(-1)3. Utah Utes 5-0 (2-0)
Didn't play any games, so what's good for the goose is good for the gander. Allows UCF to jump them by sitting in neutral.
(+1)2. Central Florida Knights 5-1 (2-1)
Got the rivalry W over USF and then took down Cincy. This should be easy coasting until the week 11 matchup.
(-)1. Colorado Buffaloes 6-0 (3-0)
Took down #21 K State but it lost a little of its luster since Notre Dame beat them to the punch. Granted, the Buffs made sure it wasn't close. Can anyone take down the mighty Dcanady's?
