MACtion Block 1 Action

MAC in Action

With the start of Season 33 underway, the MACtion has fresh faces with the same great action as always. Our conference is known for bringing in coaches that go on to shock the league with their gameplay. This season is no different, we of course have our long-term coach Chip who has been repping Central Michigan since season 30 and always finding himself in the Conference dance and CFP talk come seasons end. With the new additions we take a look to see if there will be any upstarts that will change the narrative this season.

Akron Zips – Coach Naydog
The Zips start the season 2-0 in the first block with impressive wins over North Texas and ULM. QB Ben Finley had a great 30/36 for 440 yards 5 TDs and only 1 INT in his game against North Texas but struggled a bit with the 1/3 TD/INT ration against ULM. The Zips will need him to perform like he did the first game if they want to have any hopes of continued success this season.

Toledo Rockets – Coach Footballkelly
The Rockets shot off like one so far this season. Grabbing a solid win against a P4 school beating Minnesota 23-20 and toppling North Texas 26-14. They had great signs of life from their QB play in the first game and brought a balanced attack in the second, but they will need to convert the drives that end in field goals in the endzone if they want to keep the momentum tracking.

Central Michigan Chippewas – Coach FiredUpChip
The Chips had a impressive start to the season grabbing a P4 win against Michigan State in a game that could have gone either way but then gave up 72 points in a loss to the Demon Deacons (who I believe are sneaky good). Chip has never shy away from competition and took his team to push the limits and although they gave up a lot of points in that second game they also put up a lot as both teams combined for 123 points. But this one will be taken on the chin, and Chip will have his Chippewas swinging for the fences the rest of the season. I’m looking forward to seeing the matchups against Akron, Washington St, and Toledo to end the season.

Miami (OH) Redhawks – Coach NTXblue1878
It’s always great when members find their way back to the NDL and that is what we have here with the return of NTX. Granted the name is new but not the knowledge of football. The Redhawks had a great game against the Thundering Herd and lost a close one against Colorado St but I have a feeling that once this ship gets cruising that it will be bouncing on teams like a speedboat against the waves.

Massachusetts Minutemen – Coach mcx79
The Minutemen have yet to kick off their season and it looks like they have a tough road ahead of them. Coach mcx hasn’t been able to put together a winning season since the restart of the league but could this be the season that turns things around for the coach and the Minutemen?

Ohio Bobcats – Coach Korben Dallas7
This is another coach and team that hasn’t started off just yet and we will look to see what kind of season the Bobcats will put together in season 33

Western Michigan Broncos – Coach metrodee
This coach has had some success with subpar teams with a impressive 10-3 season with Charlotte and 13-3 season with South Carolina, will the Broncos be able to put up a performance that propel Coach metrodee into a better draft spot for season 34?

Ball State Cardinals – Coach Southgacraker
Yes, it felt awkward to type out that name but anyways lol. Ball St has a history of producing coaches that go on to do some big things and that should prove to stay the course with this coach. He comes off a close loss to Coastal Carolina to start the season and if the Cardinals can find a formula to cut down if not out the turnovers, then they will see a lot more success as the season continues. They put up more first downs and moved the ball well but that TO bug will always be the difference maker. As both teams had 5 turnovers on the game, it’s usually the team that makes the last mistake that loses.

Bowling Green Falcons – Coach GotDatWeeFee
This is a new coach to the league and although I don’t have much information or knowledge of the coach, he was still able to put together a close game against ULM. I’m looking forward to seeing his game against Michigan State in week 3 and seeing if we can get another win against a P4 for the MAC.
Buffalo Bulls – Coach usmarine7t
This here is a long-term veteran who would be a true testament to playing games for the enjoyment of the game and the camaraderie. The Bulls started their seasons against familiar coaches with much better teams as he faced off against Oregon and Vanderbilt. Starting off 0-2 with that is nothing you should be disappointed about if I were this coach and he has the team and skill to have the Bulls in the top 3 come seasons end.

Kent State Golden Flashes – Coach Drewsky
I’ve always wondered what a golden flash was but hey not my job. Coach Drewsky lost a close one in week one against the Roadrunners and then wanted to test the waters (or maybe the scheduling gods got him) in week 2 against the Tide. The 0-2 start shouldn’t shake this coach as I’m sure he will come out and surprise a lot of teams that don’t take him seriously.

Norther Illinois Huskies – Coach jhubbard83
NIU is starting the season off a bit rocky with a loss to Nevada and Arizona to start the season. They are showing great signs of life as they put up solid offense in both games and only turned the ball over once, but it’s that defensive side of the ball that will need to be the difference maker for the Huskies. They will either need to find a formula to keep teams out of the end zone or one that will allow them to get into the end zone faster and more often than their opponents.

Season 33 is showing a lot of promise from a lot of coaches and teams to start off here in the MAC and it’s way too early to call it but come mid-season expectations will be pretty high.
