GOTW Preview #23 Missouri St at Mid Tenn

Article By: CeeGee

It doesn’t get much better than this: two undefeated coaches, both new to the NDL, both quick to let everyone know just how good they are — and now they collide on the LIVE broadcast after NDL Gameday.

#23 Missouri State has stormed into the rankings behind a high-powered passing attack, while Middle Tennessee has quietly built an efficient, balanced team that’s taking care of business. Both Jose and WEASEL_ have backed up their smack talk with wins, but only one can emerge from Week 7 unscathed.

Missouri State Bears Outlook

The Bears are off to a dream start at 5-0, and they’ve done it with overwhelming offense.

QB Jacob Clark has been nearly flawless, throwing for 1,768 yards, 22 TDs, and just 1 INT on 119 completions. He’s the engine of this team and is making an early case for one of the best stat lines in the NDL.

RB Shomari Lawrence has been used sparingly (183 yards, 5 TDs), but his red-zone efficiency makes him a dangerous short-yardage option.

WR Jmariyae Robinson has emerged as Clark’s top target, catching 28 passes for 548 yards and 4 TDs, while averaging nearly 20 yards per reception with massive YAC production.

Missouri State scores in bunches (44.4 PPG) but also gives up nearly as much (44.7 PPG). Their defense has struggled in second quarters (20.7 PPG allowed), which could be an opening for MTSU. Still, their ability to put up points fast makes them dangerous against anyone.

Middle Tennessee Blue Raiders Outlook

The Blue Raiders are 3-0 with an extra week of rest coming into this matchup, and they’ve looked sharper each week.

QB Nicholas Vattiato has been consistent, completing 71 of 91 passes (78%) for 999 yards, 7 TDs, and just 1 INT. He’s not asked to throw at Clark’s volume, but he’s efficient and accurate.

RB Jekail Middlebrook brings balance to the offense with 349 yards and 4 TDs, showing explosiveness with multiple 20+ yard runs.

WR Amorion Walker is the X-factor, with 28 catches for 356 yards and 2 TDs. His speed after the catch (235 YAC) stretches defenses and opens up the playbook.

MTSU’s defense has been stronger than Missouri State’s so far, giving up just 22.0 PPG. Their dominance in the first quarter (allowing 0 points in three games) gives them an edge in setting the tone.

Key Matchups to Watch

Clark vs. Vattiato: Both quarterbacks are accurate, but Clark’s volume and touchdown production are unmatched. Can Vattiato keep pace in a shootout?

Red Zone Execution: Missouri State leans on Lawrence, while MTSU spreads the ball around. The team that finishes drives with touchdowns instead of field goals wins.

Defensive Stops: Missouri State’s defense bleeds points, while MTSU has held strong early. If the Blue Raiders can build a lead, Missouri State may finally feel pressure.

Intangibles

This one isn’t just about stats — it’s about ego. Both Jose and WEASEL_ have been vocal in claiming their spots among the best new coaches in the league. This game being on a live broadcast only adds to the fireworks. Whoever wins doesn’t just take control of the standings — they take the bragging rights.

Prediction

Missouri State has been the more explosive team, but their defense is a glaring weakness. MTSU’s ability to control tempo and play cleaner defense at home could be the difference. If Vattiato protects the football and Middlebrook finds running lanes, MTSU has a real shot at an upset.

That said, Clark’s passing attack has looked unstoppable, and in a primetime setting, it’s hard to bet against the quarterback with 22 TDs already. Expect fireworks, but the Bears’ offense finds a way late.

Projected Score: Missouri State 41, Middle Tennessee 35

Jose keeps Missouri State undefeated in a shootout, but both teams prove they belong in the national conversation.
