If this doesn't happen, I will be upset. I've done my reading and this is brilliant on nearly every front.
Athletically: Step up in football and basketball, the money sports. Volleyball would win 189 consecutive Big Ten games. Would this in any way impact baseball?
Education: One of the best schools in the Big XII would be dogshit in the Big Ten but you have the chance to improve.
Socially: Nebraska automatically becomes one of the big names - if not the biggest - in the conference, something they surrendered to the B12 South about eight years ago.

Money is the only intensive really
You have lost your mind if you think Nebraska is some educational mecca. Its very middle of the road even in the Big 12
It would be in the bottom quarter of schools education wise in the big ten but you said it would be dog shit...lol

Way more money, and the Big 12 gives Texas a disproportionate amount of the cash. Big 12 is very vulnerable.Cnasty wrote:May be a dumb question, but why leave the Big 12?
For being unable to win the Big 12 and it being easier to win the Big 10??
I think the Big 12 is more of an elite conference than the Big 10 as of late.
Weird move.

Re: Big 10 has supposedly made it's initial offers
The Big East banned props a few years ago. SEC still gets them, as does the Big 12. Not sure about the others. Some of WVU's best players were props, many of whom did well in school once they got in. Not sure what the hell Providence was thinking with that decision, as recruiting in the Big East is tough as it is.brwnbear wrote:trendon wrote:I need that explained to me. Despite how much I love college ball and Nebraska, I don't "show up" until the Spring Game. Unless some kid from my home is being recruited (LOL!), I know shit about the guy, so I don't pay attention.brwnbear wrote: 4. Recruiting. No offense, but the B12 has loser guidelines to get recruits in. The BT has not allowed a project 40 kid in 5 years. They are still a big part of Oklahoma and other B12 classes. NU will have to conform to the BT recruiting guidelines.
What is Project 40?
Project 40 is the name given to a loophole that allows schools to accept players that dont meet the minimum NCAA requirement for getting into school (grade point average on core classes and ACT or SAT score). The minimum requirements are based on a sliding scale, so you can get a very bad ACT and have a good GPA and get in, or vice versa.
A project 40 kid (also known as a bridge program) doesnt meet those guidelines so, he gets into school and has 1 year to stay eligible (cannot play) and get to stay on scholarship. Another way schools get around the min. guidelines is by having players take or retake their core classes through online correspondence courses. This artificially raises the GPA and lowers the ACT requirement.
Very few BT schools allow correspondence courses and those that do, are regulated by the BT. I dont think this has ever really been abused at NU like it has at OK, but you are always able to get one or two kids in that you really wanted that you normally wouldnt have.

They have above-average APR and have pushed out more Academic All-Americans than any school in the country.

Re: Big 10 has supposedly made it's initial offers
As would I. The conference would be solid in football, and would once again be the cream of the crop in basketball. As a bonus, the Catholic schools in the Big East would be relegated to secondary status. Win/win in my eyes.Hoos wrote:Pretty much the same way the ACC expansion went down. There were leaks well in advance that something was going on. That created a lot of speculation and public denials.
You can guarantee that there has been a lot of behind doors discussions. You usually don't publically make an offer of this magnitude unless you have already worked out the details and have the answer beforehand.
If the Big 10 expands, then the dominos are going to fall again. With the Big East weakened yet again, it might be time for the ACC to swoop in and expand all the way up the East Coast. I'd like to see Uconn, WVU, Pitt, and Syracuse added.

Re: Big 10 has supposedly made it's initial offers
I doubt USF is even in the discussions at this point. They would likely be left holding the bag. Very little tradition, cash strapped athletic department, bad basketball to boot. The ACC and SEC would add to react to the Big 10, regardless of whether they lost a team. No one wants to be left behind in the super conference race.Mtwasik wrote:Only reason the ACC would add teams is to replace any it loses.
Then, the ACC would look to replace what it lost by raiding the Big East again of any football playing schools, they would take USF for sure and whoever is left.

Trendon thinks WAY to much of Nebraska. Strange for a fellow from New York who has never been in the state. LOL
If Nebraska goes to the Big Ten it probably is in the best interest of the school, but to act like they are some elite school in the Big 12 is wrong.
They are terrible at every sport, average now at football and average academically. The big Ten must be hard pressed for schools
