Coach Tom Gordon knew coming into this game that even though his team had a B- rating and that UTSA was a D- team, it still would come down to skills with the stick. And Coach Tball has always been better handling his stick than myself, ha. The Roadrunners took this very competitive game, in overtime, by a score of 24-21.
UTSA scored first, and very quickly, with a 29 yard TD pass, early in the game. ISU finally got on the board with a three yard TD run by Shontrelle Johnson, midway thru the 2nd quarter, and the game headed to halftime at even at 7.
Three Roadrunner interceptions were the only things keeping Coach Gordon in the game, and finally they were able to capitalize, with another three yard TD run by Shontrelle Johnson, late in the 3rd stanza.
Coach Tball had a very impressive drive, late in regulation, converting a 24 yard pass into points, to tie things up at 14 and send it to overtime. UTSA scored quickly in overtime while ISU grounded and pounded their way to even it up again at 21. ISU started with the ball in the 2nd overtime, but the heavy blitzing of UTSA sacked QB Sam Richardson, knocking them out of FG range and brought on a failed 4th down conversion. The Roadrunners ran three safe running plays and kicked a FG to win it.
