Fresno State's first league showdown with Coach Reign at the helm ends in bitter disappointment, as the Bulldogs battled all day long, only to come up short on their last possession, while attempting to tie the game.
QB Derek Carr had an adequate performance, tossing the ball for 264 yards and a touchdown, but the 2 interceptions and the inability of the offensive line to hold up against a superior Iowa defensive front were the team's undoing. Freshly named starting HB M. Waller did a solid job on the ground. While his numbers weren't amazing, he did what was necessary in the pass first offense.
Defensively, Coach Reign went back to his roots from 6-8 seasons ago, and brought out the vaunted 3-4. The general philosophy being that he wants to maximize the talents of his linebacker and minimize the lack of depth that is a problem throughout the team. Holding a great program like Iowa to just 321 yards, 70 of which came on 1 play, is a solid first step compared to Coach Reign's team's recent performances.
