Both teams traded touchdowns on the first 4 possessions of the game, but the SMU defense disrupted that flow with forcing the games first turnover early in the 2nd quarter. The Mustangs offense would cash in just over a minute later as the home team took the lead for the first time. SMU would not five the lead away the rest of the game, largely due to the defense forcing two more picks, and QB Garrett Gilber being lock in all game long. SMU now turns there focus to keeping the momentum going.
