The Saturday afternoon shootout was filled with stars and studs. Syracuse WR Jarrod West put on an absolute highlight reel worth performance, hauling in 5 passes for 205 yards and 2 TDs, including 2 spectacular leaping receptions. 1 of them closed out the first half and involved West out jumping CB Sean Alston, then, as Alston turned to tackle him, he bounced off, then out raced FS Derron Smith for the remaining 20yards to score. His 2nd sensational play was on a 3rd and long, late in the 2nd half, in which he went up, between Smith and Alston and ripped the ball down, just beyond the 1st down marker.
But the story wasn't a happy ending for the Orange, as after kicking the FG to tie it on the following play and send it to OT, the Orange would give up a TD on the Bulldogs first play from scrimmage. The Syracuse offense had a 1st down inside the 10, but couldn't get the ball into the end zone, as the Fresno LB crew came up big in the closing period.
