Eubank's early interception would be sign of things to come.
ARIZONA STATE LOSES 2ND STRAIGHT

Sun Devils Fall 28-16 Against Cardinal

The Arizona State Sun Devils opened conference play taking on the Stanford Cardinal in Tempe and looked to get back on track after a loss last week to Oklahoma State.

Arizona State got the ball to start the game and disaster would strike quickly when Eubanks would throw an interception on the third play of the game. Stanford used their first three plays more effectively by gaining the 13 yards necessary for a touchdown on Kaumatule's 4 yard run. Arizona State would answer with a long drive but could only muster a 29 yard field goal by Garoutte to cut their deficit to 7-3. Stanford's following drive would see them reach the Arizona State 33, but the drive would stop there and Williamson's field goal attempt was no good. The Sun Devils' next drive would last just six plays before being forced to punt. The Cardinal's next drive would result in points when Wilkerson would score on a 61 yard touchdown run. Down 14-3, the Sun Devils looked to close the gap before heading into halftime. They would do just that when Eubank would find Coyle from 20 yards out for a touchdown, and Arizona State would go into the locker rooms down 14-10.

Stanford would get the ball to start the 2nd half and would increase their lead when Sanders crossed the goal line from 6 yards out. Arizona State's Eubank would start the 2nd half, the way he started the 1st, by throwing an interception on the 3rd play. Stanford's next drive would result in a turnover when Hogan was picked off in Arizona State territory. Eubank responded by throwing another interception three plays into the next drive, again. Stanford would take advantage of the opportunity as they scored on a Young 2 yard touchdown run. Eubank would find his own receivers on the next Sun Devil drive, and his 30 yard touchdown pass to Ozier closed the gap to 28-16. Arizona State would attempt a two point conversion but, again, Eubank would get intercepted. Stanford was able to hold onto the ball the rest of the way as they ran off the remaining 3:22 to seal the win.
