ACC CHAMPS!

Virginia Tech knocks off FSU in Season 28 conference title game

Blacksburg, VA (AP) Time to play for some hardware people! The stage was set to crown the ACC Champion today as the 11-1 Virginia Tech Hokies played host to the 10-2 Florida State Seminoles. A match up on paper favoring the Noles would be called a toss up game by experts as game took place in hostile Blacksburg. Two storied programs with two coaches very familiar with each other - a coaching rivalry dating back to the infancy of online gaming. The last chapter of the Coach VT & Coach Cane rivalry would see Coach VT play spoiler to a Cane coached Wisconsin squad. Today Coach Cane would have a chance to even the score...

Virginia Tech would open with the ball and wasted no time setting the tone in this game as the Offense would march down the field then punch in a TD to draw first blood. This drive was particularly interesting as it displayed a balance of run & passing places that were executed so precisely that the well placed FSU defenders were just a hair too slow or hair too late. This theme would define much of the 1st and 2nd half as both teams exchanged blows yet on key downs the Hokies would execute just a bit better.

Never trailing in this bout, Virginia Tech would grow there lead as large as 21, feeding off of FSU's misfortune and untimely miscues. The Seminoles were sharp today but when they look back on this game, a few key plays where Virginia Tech executed a little better will simply haunt them.

With the win, Virginia Tech caps off their regular season with the ACC Crown and a 12-1 record. Next up will be the bowl selection show as the Hokies await the announcement of whom they'll likely be playing in the Orange Bowl. It's highly unlikely a 12-1 team will leap frog any of the undefeated teams and sneak into the national title game, but hey stranger things have happened.

Gg Cane - always a pleasure homie. best of luck in your bowl game
